Try libraries. Sometimes they have literacy programs. Call the closest teaching hospital. Call the international dyslexia association. There probably is a chapter in Ill.Colleges with graduate students taking a Masters in Educational Psychology might be interested in tutoring him. Good luck. You are a great friend.
I read a book about a teacher who could not read, you might want to get it out of the Library. The teacher was in his late 50s. The think the book is call The Teacher who could not read". Also Ron Davis who started the Davis Method was also in his late 50th when he learned how to read.
