The more I read here the more I see that people are being miss lead, THERE IS NO FIX FOR DYSLEXIA!! The only things that are out there are tools to help you live with it.
The things that are hard for people with it are listed here.
Reading,Math
Spelling,Sports,Homework
Holding a good conversation(lack of reading & vocabulary)
Memory
Directions
Left from Right,Letters-B&D-b&d-etc.
Shapes,Puzzles,CoordinationHands & Eye-coordination(ex;video games)
Testing-we tend to freeze up.
Doing projects--We know how to do it, We don’t know How - OR- Where to start.
There may be some I am forgetting. The classes that I went to the teachers are all gone now. The class program had, Exercises, Balance exercise, Crawling, Eye exercise, And
Things to do in front of a chalk board. When I say exercise I don’t mean like you do @ a gym. The exercise program is for your mind & body to work together. About half way through (6months of being in the class the kids will go through a (crises period) this is when they will not want to go. That is because there body is going through some changes. And that is the most important time to keep up with the classes!! It is also telling you it is working.
I do not get on here everyday, if you want you can use my e-mail for faster reply.markane502@comcast.net

I totally agree with you. I have 2 adult dyslexic daughters, both in college. The psychologist that tested my daughters wrote in their evaluation that they no longer had dsylexia because they had gone thru programs and could read. However; they have all the dsylexia tendicies, other than they can read. The college advisor said there is no evidence now of dyslexia, so no accomodations. How do you get across to the psychologist there is no cure! So many professional educated people, I have come in contact with since their Kingergarten years, do not understand that your genetic make up doesn't change with dyslexia. As you stated you learn to make accomodations, it is always with you. You said it perfectly. It is life long.
My husband is 67 and still dsylexic. He dropped out of hight school in the 11th grade and went into a vocational school. He operates a business and is successful. I type letters he writes, he writes them the way the words sound, however, he is an avid reader. Thank you again, you words are confirming. My dsylexic family is artistic, they paint, sculpture and fabricate items from wood or metal.

Giday Mark, you are so right. I am 58, I started school at the age of six in East Africa.
All through my school life I struggled with most of those things you listed.
I didn't suffer with all( maths good and loved sport) of them but the reading and spelling was the biggest problem with me, you hit the nose with testing we tend to freeze up. No matter how hard I tried, I just could not improve.Through life every job and trade i just had to put the extra mile in to pass exams etc. Until I found web sites like this, I though I was just a dumbass, I have never been tested, but happy now reading all material out there and know I am dyslexic.(not in a bad way)
I read a lot of books, don't know but with age I seem to be getting less of a task, I have a good job, so just enjoying life.

Really is being so mean necessary? Isn't is easier to say that there is no cure for Dyslexia because the actual "disease" isn't a learning disability, but a different way of thinking. Therefore a cure is not needed...one simply needs to learn to learn as a Dyslexic person should learn (in pictures) and not in patters of orders of letters and words. That, my dear, is a fix. The actual disability comes from over concentrating in order to make since with the pictures in our "mind's eye' what we are being told we are supposed to be seeing. As we start to over concentrate and in effect over work our brains...we cause ourselves to create fundamental errors. (that being...to see what really isn't there, so that our 'minds eye" can finally see something on a page.) Read "The Gift of Dyslexia, by Ronald D. Davis. He is Dyslexic as well as the author. He explains all this very well in his book. If reading is difficult for you..then I suggest you go to audible.com. You can purchase it there...download their reader and have it read to you. It's a life saver, let me tell you.
