Subject: I hate being Dyslexic

Hi Guys

I was diagnosed with moderate dyslexia at young age and was able to see a specialist tutor who helped me with my education. Though I have enjoyed a successful academic career I have struggled in the real world and have been let go from two different jobs as result of my dyslexia getting the better of me.

I would suggest to dyslexic people not to go to university unless you are studying something that is design related or is a specific career.

Education is supposed to get you out of poverty not put you in it.

I now face the stark reality that after losing two jobs I will never get a job that I can cope with and will earn me enough money to make going to University pay off.

Not being able to do what you want to do and realising that its very unlucky that you will be a successful individual in the working world is quite a depressing reality.

If there are any academics out there looking to do some research I would like some to find out the success rate of dyslexic graduates compared to non dyslexic graduates in the work place.

Hi there

I am really sorry that you have experienced such a rough time. However I disagree with you regarding university to an extent.

To prove myself as clever as I was always put in the lower or sub-lower classes at school, I have done everything I can to prove that I am no dummy. I didn't know I was dyslexic until the wonderful UEL diagnosed me. I was 37.

I've held down many jobs in HR, gained my professional qualification, gained many others along the way. I left my jobs because I didn't like them.

My first degree was just that a degree! But hell I got it and without any support from the uni I was in at the time.

I am now on my second degree studying one of the hardest degree courses you can do and I am holding my own. It's not easy and I easily work twice as hard as anyone else but I am doing well.

With the right university for support and being told from an early age that I could do whatever I wanted, I just had to work hard at it, I could achieve anything.

University is open to everyone it's just a shame that you now have to pay for it.

Good luck and all the best.

At age 28, I was faced with raising 2 toddlers by myself and to do that I need a profession that would allow me to make at least $50,000. I would recommend going to your local community college and educating yourself in occupational therapy, ultrasound tech, dental hygiene, or xray tech. These professions will require you to take 2 years of classes. THe core classes like english 101, english 102, psychology, sociology, speech, and math are great classes to begin with. A community college is generally less expensive $2000 a semester with books, tuition and parking pass. If you already have these classes, it is also easier to get into the program right there.

Oh BIG PERK! Being a dental hygienist, the average dentist is only open 4 days a week and typical days, you only see 10 patients. Three years after I graduated, I purchased a 2600sq ft ranch in a wonderful community.

My favorite scripture is from James 1:1. Count it pure joy when you fall into trials of various kinds knowing that the testing will produce perserverance and perserverance, maturity.

I hate being Dyslexic too because I become so frustrated but because I am dyslexic, I work hard and a stubborn about it. You can make it just keep on going.
