As I am reading these post I am more and more convinced that I might be dyslexic. I am 25, just graduated from the education program and I am working as an EA until I can find a job. Throughout the past few months I have learned a lot about dyslexia and the signs.
I can't spell at all. I rely on my computer to help me with spelling, I cannot multiply or divide, I cannot read a map and get lost so often that I refuse to drive somewhere new alone.
I get very frustrated with my inability to understand conversations. I tend to zone out during long conversations because I can't concentrate. I find looking at people's mouths helps sometimes but I freak people out with this.
I have trouble speaking in public, I often mix up what I want to say. For example, today I meant to say "I went for lunch with my mom on Sat" but I ended up saying "I went for supper with my parents on sat" I realize this probably isn't a big deal but I went over what I was going to say over and over in my head and I still didn't get it right.
I often find I stumble over words when reading out loud.
I can read, I enjoy reading but I often find reading large bodies of text overwhelming. I am taking a course online right now and there is a lot of reading. I have discovered that my computer can read to me which does seem to help.
I tend to get headaches when reading and I have had an eye exam that came back as 20/20 or better. I have glasses because I was complaining about the words floating on the page and my eye doc was thinking it was eye strain from too much reading.
I am also learning how to play the guitar and I am finding reading music hard unless I colour code. I find I skip lines or read half of one line then half of the next.
Does this sound familar to anyone here? What should I do? The test costs so much that I can't afford it either way. I need some coping strategies to help me.
thanks
