My son has been on an IEP since kindergarten and they could never put thier finger on his difficulty. He can spell and reads beyond his year but he can't break things down phonetically or compose within any reasonable time frame. I found two websites(http://www.ncld.org/content/view/457/391/) and I have highlighted all the signs that he matches the criteria. Most of them are highlighted. He's presently in the fifth grade and close to failing despite evidence from testing that he is quite smart. I would suggest that you arm yourself with copies from the site so that you have documentation to back you up and also to refer to. I know that I always forget things and get disorganized in meetings with the teachers and having a list helps me. And most of all be stubborn and insist, the government provides help for students if you can get the school to recognize the problem. Also make sure they know that you are dyslexic, it's hereditary. Good Luck!
