Has she investigated alternative format assessment? There are many forms of communication. Social Studies should lend itself to alternative representations of alternative views.

I did not realize your reply was to my reply. I have found linking up with a talkative fellow student works for me. The thought processing and analysis for conversations on my subjects seems to work for me.

All the best for your future, Jennifer.

Regards,
John

in Minnesota there is a law that said something like this any adult that wants to improve there writing or reading or math the state will proved training. I had the same problem passing the test. so I went to a GED instructor for help but already has two Bachelor Degrees. He suggested I get tested for dyslexia. and because I was in the training program I was able to get a grant for testing from the LDA (learning disability association) of Minnesota. That in turn lead to help from the states vocational Rehabilitation program. I have tired teaching automotive mechinces three times but have learned that it is not the right fit for my strengths

As a 46 year old I returned to college to brave it out and found a school that had no tests. But I decided to become a therapist and knew that there would be a 2 difficult licensing exams. I was willing to accept that I may just have to be happy receiving an MA even if I never passed the tests and getting an MA was such a major accomplishment. But I knew that I had to at least try to pass the exam, since my goal was to run my own business and have autonomy. I came up with many techniques to study including using clay figures and scenarios (taken from the Davis method) I used every memory trick, mnemonics, songs, and repetition. I also went to hypnotherapy and did EMDR trauma therapy to help with the massive anxiety of testing since I had such a bad track record. I finally passed! So, my advice is that the more that you can recognize your specific strengths and weaknesses, the better you can address the problem.

I had the same problem. In England we have something called QTS skills tests. It took me along time to pass them. The only tip I have is revise, revise, revise and revise more.
I am sure your daughter will pass and when she does it will be a great sense of acheievment.
Good Luck

This might help see if she can take a mock or a pre-test and what areas that see failed in get a turor and work on those subjects study about 10 -20 minutes and take a 10 min. brake you will be able to comprehend more when you are ready than take the test. just remmember we are in a ulate group of people that are dyslexic us presidents, authors, actors musicians, and athletes. you will make a phenomenal teacher very best wishes to you. Try dyslexia.com there is certainly a facilitator in her area. There's a book, "The Gift of Dyslexia" that my daughter (25) uses to help her control 'disorientation'. Dyslexics are all unique and so are their 'triggers'. Once your daughter finds her 'trigger' (a trigger creates disorientation for her) she will be able to learn how to apply a technique which will cause the disorientation to go away. And, after a bit, she will be able to quickly identify what will trigger her to go into disorientation and curtail it before it happens.

She is a gifted 3-D thinker. Text is 2-D. Once she reads the book (you too) she will get it!

The reason she has a gift is because not only can she now have access to a 2-D thinkers brain but she has the luxury of having a 3-D mind also. 25% of the population will never have the 3-D option, they are stuck in 2-D...poor things! smile
