I have always had a spelling assistant in my life (husband and sister for example). Here are a few tips that have helped those helping me.
First if he asks you to spell a word, do not speak the letters to him (such as S-P-E-L-L), rather write the word out on a piece of paper and give it to him to copy out. For a dyslexic person, having lists of words in front of you does not help. Even if it is spelled correctly in front of me I may not copy it correctly. The best is to alow him to write and edit it for him later. Be careful not to patronise or expect a word to be spelled correctly if you have corrected it in the past.
Thanks for careing enouph about your friend to help!
regards
Nicole (Oh and please check the spelling:) ha ha)

I work for an English Enrichment software which corrects spelling, grammar, punctuation in whole sentences,( as opposed to word by word).
The software is www.whitesmoke.com.
In approximately one month, we will be selling our software designed specially to help the dyslectics. www.whitesmoke.com/writing assistant.
At present one can go into the sight and try out the new software that we are developing. One can type and check out the corrections given. It may not be 100% at present, but in no time it will be the dyslectics best friend.
Please update me when you have tried it.
