Hi Cynthia,
I hear what you're saying! I was 32 when I went back to college at the University Wisconsin Oshkosh. That is where I found out I was dyslexic. That was 32 years ago, But the one thing that sticks out in my case is that I was tested at the University which gave me a baseline from which to start. I found that my IQ was very high and my academic performance was very low.

I was very fortunate to be in a location where they could identify that I was dyslexic and they also had a program that could assist me in learning to read and spell. After going through that program I became an independent learner and became self-sufficient. If I can offer some advice it would be to take the first step in getting identified or having a baseline test done so you know where your cognitive abilities and your academic skills are. With that information your counselor should be able to assist you in receiving accommodations for your dyslexia.

You should also look at assistive technology for dyslexics. Now days we have hardware and software that can assist you in the drudgery that you are experiencing with your studies. WYNN Reader,Dragon Naturally Speaking, are two softwares that I would recommend. I am using Dragon Naturally Speaking, a voice to text software, to write this message.

I have a website that you should visit. wildd.org

We have a distance learning program that you might be interested in. If you go to the contact page and fill out your information I would be able to contact you and talk to you more about this.

All my best,

Erv
