I never learned to drive as a teenager, and am now learning to drive for the first time in my early 20s. I don't have the experience of having to change countries, but definitely learning the correct side of road to drive on has been one of the most challenging parts of learning to drive as a Dyslexic (especially when it comes to turning onto a new road, existing a parking lot, or something similar and becoming disoriented). "Am on the correct side of the road???" has been THE most asked question I've repeated while driving. The second most difficult aspects for me as been when being told directions to turn left or right, start planning on turning wrong direction, realize at the last minute left/right is the OTHER way, panic, and try to course correct at the last second (which is very dangerous). Since getting confused about left & right will always be a problem for me, what I need to learn to do instead is ignore my instincts to course-correct at the last second once it had dawned on my I'm about to turn the wrong way and fix it later.

The people helping me learn to drive have mentioned how I ask "Am I in the correct lane?" less often. But really, I don't believe its because my sense of direction of the highway has improved. Its because I've learned to compensate by observing better which direction the other drivers are going before turning-- but of course this flawed if the road is deserted. =/
