I was hoping someone might have an answer for you by now but as none has been forthcoming I will try to help. I am no expert in diesel systems but I do know that the high-pressure injection pump incorporates a governor. On some pumps this is a mechanical type but I think on yours, as mine, it is hydraulic. The purpose of the governor is to regulate the fuel supply to maintain a constant engine speed relative to the throttle setting. Your problem suggests a possible fault with the governor. Of course there may be other causes. Diesel engines are very touchy about fuel supply so water in the fuel, diesel bug causing a clogged filter, faulty injectors with excessive leakback, air leaks - you name it and it can cause a weird and inexplicable problem.

Not wishing to 'put down' this forum but the fact that posts have to be approved by the admin before they appear, resulting in a significant delay, tends I think to dissuade members from making the best use of it. I would therefore suggest that you post your query in the technical sections of some other boating forums where you might get a faster response from someone with more detailed knowledge.
