Considering the char i'm making will either be a spy or assassin, I have to say the thieves' guild should be included ;) It would also create some nice targets for the Jarval, Vedis, and the Osred house, and vica versa. However, since we're asked to choose only two houses, i'd say also include the Vedis house with the thieves' guild.

Now for the ideas on my prefered house, or former-house-turned-thieves-guild. Since it used to be a noble's house, I am assuming that this thieves' guild is more than just a group of petty crinimals trying to make a name for themselves. I would like to see this guild a group of disgruntled former house members who are successful enough to keep some power and competent enough to keep from being arrested.

I'm thinking the leadership should be handled in a way similar to the Shadow Thieves in Baldur's Gate II. There should be one person who appears to be the leader to outsiders and handles everday affairs. A second person should be the known leader among guild members but secret to outsiders, and handles the more important guild buisness.
