a pragmatic, "if it works, do it" kind of guy who engages in a vocabulary of the fantastic, phantasmagorical sort which is supposed to be suitable to what he laughingly thinks of as gurus with shamanistic whimsies. He doesn't question whatever powers he's able to muster - just uses them to achieve the ends he pursues. He's a dogooder in a nonsentimental way, serving what he believes to be a higher purpose that will benefit mankind - eventually. He's been around for a long time, and looks forward to more of the same before his efforts bear much fruit. The organization with which he's affiliated is composed of likeminded individuals with similar abilities, some greater and some lesser. They've been at work for a long time, sometimes starting wars and sometimes preventing wars, but always seeking people who can influence the course of events. Some of those people are politicians, others are artists, a few are scientists, a few more inventors, and a very few are philosophers. They primarily aim at programs that will eventually reduce population growth, pollution and the waste of resources. They believe strongly that humanity needs an escape hatch - a way to migrate to space in a self-sustaining fashion. The primary obstacle to progress is the cost of energy and the lack of more efficient ways to use energy to perform useful work. They frequently use what seem to be unlikely persons as actors in their program, such as Paco. Paco, although a callow youth, has the capacity to grasp their program in its entirety, see flaws and redundancies and devise methods of correcting the course forward. He merely needs to be led to discover and exercise his abilities and to be introduced to and integrated into the program.
