I am aware that adult Irish Dancers have become a norm in ID- fine. However, I cannot defend the ladies and gents who cannot even physically LIFT an inch off of the ground. If the adults are going to want to dance solo at a national competition, which is considered prestigious in the Irish dancing world, they truly need to be treated like every single other dancer who dedicates so much of their time to becoming an athlete, navigating through the lessons of having to work hard, win some, lose some, make sacrifices, etc. There needs to be a standard and qualifications set in place. Some of the dancing today could not possibly be defended even by people who truly support adult Irish dancers. Adult Irish dancers are going to always have their reason as to why they dance, just like us all. But it is unfair that they are getting an opportunity that has to be earned and worked for by younger dancers for years, just handed to them. Let them dance, but in their own organization. Similar to how people retire from college sports and join IM teams to meet up a few times a week and play a friendly game.
