- Growth spurt advice -- Growing DD, 06:07:15 11/09/09 Mon
DD just had another growth spurt and has starting bending over while dancing. Any advice from someone who has been there? Right before O's, ugh!!! TCRG didn't have any good specifics. Thanks!

- There is not anything you can do as the "bending" and slouching happens because bones grow first and then the muscles catch up. Besides the fact she is suddenly taller and some kids react by trying to be short again, the "short" muscles contribute to the slouch. Hang in there. It will change! Do you think there would be a market for a "blank" dress? So a dress made in the latest style with a ruffled or rah-rah skirt for example, but with no embroidery. You would then decorate the dress with stones or sequin appliques when you received it making it an individual dress. What sort of price would you pay for this kind of thing? it would still be made by hand in quality fabrics to the highest standard and not mass produced. Any thoughts?

- I think so. I have seen a couple of lovely champ dresses lately where instead of embroidery the design was all done with crystals, very carefully placed in intricate patterns. Saw 2 of them at the Culkin feis, and have seen this previously as well. (NT) -- hth, 17:14:41 11/08/09 Sun
- If they were priced low enough, they'd probably sell, but I don't think they would appeal to the main ID market. People want whats in style, and unless a BNDM pushes a very simple style, I don't see it happening. (NT) -- my .02, 17:29:26 11/08/09 Sun

Top 10 Reasons I didn't Recall At Oireachtas
10. I was distracted by the other dancers TC trying to land a plane in the Ballroom.
9. I had the wrong BN dress in the wrong color
8. My dance partner blocked the judge’s view of my dancing.
7. The scores were mixed up with another dancer’s, I was robbed.
6. One of the judges tanked me because they hate my TC
5. The stage was too slippery, sticky, too high, too small, too big
4. I had to dance 3 @ a time
3. I am not the TC’s favorite so I didn’t get enough practice in class or exposure with VIPs
2. I had to dance with a World Qualifier
1. I didn’t recall because of politics ( that’s what my mother told me.)

Her heel has been bothering her for some time. It is the OUTside of her left heel, not the bottom. Doc said severs but most info I find says pain is on the bottom of the heel-doesn't mention the side. Been doing the stretching and the icing (x-ray fine). Started ultrsound the other day with the whirlpool and plan is to do that 2x/week. Doc is very familiar with Irish dancing but with the Os coming up figured I'd add Oscon to the mix based on a lot of recommendations on this board. Thanks!

- New split sole soft shoes -- Curious, 07:03:49 11/06/09 Fri
DD just received her first pair of Rutherford Cavans in the mail. She has always worn the Pacelli Eclipse, but wanted to try the split sole to assist with differentiating her points, etc. She wears a 6 in the Eclipse, so we ordered both a 6 as well as a 5 1/2 as the very sweet woman from Rutherford said they need to be very snug and almost to the point where they are uncomfortable with the toes slightly curled because they will stretch a lot the first time she actually dances in them. Here is my question for anyone that has experience with the Cavans: did you purchase your shoes so that your toes were curled under at the top and if so, did they stretch considerably the first time you did dance in them? Right now, the snug pair are pretty tight and dd didn't even want to dance in them because she doubts they will stretch to the degree she needs. If we can try and get them to the point of beinf fairly comfortable, dd wants to tuck them away and not use them until the Oireachtas. Does this make sense? Thanks!!!!

- Help with hard shoes ??? -- Thanks for input !, 19:45:06 11/05/09 Thu
My 12 year old daughter has had her hard shoes for 1 1/2 years. They are getting really tight, but she does not want to break in a new pair right before the Os. Unfortunately, we just noticed that they are starting to rip or separate at the seam between the arch and the tip (probably due to increased use and starting "holds" in Sept.) It is small but we don't want it to get bigger. I know she needs new shoes but we just need these to last 3 more weeks. Any suggestions ? Has anyone had this happen to them ? Would wrapping electrical tape around the shoe while she dances work? Could a cobbler fix this (without making the shoe stiff which would affect her holds as she is new to them) ? Thank you, thank you for responses !!

- I love looking at individual dresses on mess boards, my only request is to please put the age of the dancer. I don't like taking the time to look at a dress that's for a 7 yr old when dd is 20, so I've stopped unless an age is listed. Just a thought, please add the dancer's age & I do think you'll get more of the right ppl looking. -- me, 04:55:34 11/04/09 Wed

- Problem with that is: my dd is 5'7", well developed and only 13. Her dresses would fit older dancers better than most 13 year olds. So, putting her age will limit who looks at it. (NT) -- just sayin', 05:12:42 11/04/09 Wed
- While that is a good suggestion, I'd prefer to see an objective measure of size, such as length, listed. Avoids problem of very different sized dancers being the same age. (NT) -- Mom, 05:12:59 11/04/09 Wed
- Maybe add something like this, "Worn by a 13yo, suitable for 12-16 yo." (NT) -- That might help, 06:08:30 11/04/09 Wed
- I listed the total dress length, not the age since my dancer is a very petite older dancer. Her dress would fit a 13 year old with the bust taken in. If I list the age, many parents of younger dancers would scroll by (NT) -- agree with first poster, 06:32:30 11/04/09 Wed
- Or at least the height of the dancer! I'm 5'9, and have been having the hardest time finding a dress, since the majority of dancers are smaller than I am. (NT) -- U19er, 06:44:34 11/04/09 Wed
- The height is a great idea, Fit perfect when dancer was 5' 2" or would fit a dancer 5' to 5' 2" (NT) -- that would work, 07:21:48 11/04/09 Wed
- If I were to list my daughter's dress right now, along with the measurements I would add, "Currently worn by a 13 yr old who is 5'8 with an atheltic build." That way you would know she is not tall and slender, but not heavy either. (NT) -- ..., 07:35:31 11/04/09 Wed
- I don't think height would help. I'm 5'6, but have a long torso and short legs...whereas a friend is 5'6" with long legs and an average torso. We tried a dress swap once...didn't work so well. Sellers: post accurate measurements & buyers: know the measurements of yourself/DD. (NT) -- SRgirl, 07:49:01 11/04/09 Wed
- Height would help for me. Might not be the right measurements in the end, but it does help sort through. (NT) -- My thought, 08:10:49 11/04/09 Wed
- i list the height for mine. i've been over 5'8" since i was 10 years old. so for the past ten years ive been about the same size. (NT) -- OH Feis Grl, 12:41:18 11/04/09 Wed
- and my 13 yr old is probably more like a 9-10 year old - I would much rather have the objective sizes, with perhaps a "worn by small 13 yr old, but likely appropriate for 9-11 yr old" or something like that. (NT) -- Too much variance just w/ age, 17:39:08 11/04/09 Wed

- Not enough. (NT) -- probably 3 times as many., 10:45:22 11/04/09 Wed
- I would say that a gross of each is enough, but it very much depends on what you are planning - subtle, patterned, following edges along panels/neckline? You need to plan before you buy. (NT) -- there's no easy rule, 10:53:46 11/04/09 Wed
- If there are NO crystals already on the dress I would say a gross is not enough...my dm put on 1 1/2 gross, I've added 1/2 gross and just ordered from dreamtime creations today 2 more gross in 3 diff sizes (though won't use them all on this dress) (NT) -- le, 11:02:55 11/04/09 Wed
- actionfabrics.com ask for gloria (NT) -- bling queen, 11:06:17 11/04/09 Wed
- Depends on the design - on my DD there are over 2000 crystals two different sizes.... (NT) -- Sparkles, 11:10:05 11/04/09 Wed
- 4 gross of one size and 2 gross of the smaller size. Dancer is about 5'7". Really depends on style and size of dress (NT) -- late, 11:12:50 11/04/09 Wed
- thank youall very much! Im so glad I asked before I ordered. I'd rather have too many than not enough. (NT) -- newbie, 11:22:37 11/04/09 Wed
- OP, what I did when dd's new dress arrived this summer was order a few different sizes of crystals from Hot Fix Queen. They don't charge for shipping, so I got one gross of each, then decided how many more gross I'd need. It didn't cost me any extra to do it this way since shipping is free, and it saved me from ending up with too many. (NT) -- hth, 17:06:26 11/04/09 Wed
- Remember that crystals add weight to the dress....We added 2 gross to a dress that had already been nicely decked out but needed a little bling around collar and waist. (NT) -- Good luck!, 22:48:34 11/04/09 Wed
- I am a dissenting voice. I added one gross of 34 ABs and it is lovely and tasteful. (NT) -- less is more sometimes, 06:10:44 11/05/09 Thu

I couple of years ago, I ran across a short, online video of how to have correct posture, and one for how to allign the foot for a correct toe stand. I think I found these on Dance.net. I have looked over there but can't find them. They were made by a mom who I think did both ballet and ID. (I could be wrong).
If I remember correctly, I think she had these up on a personal website. If I anyone knows what I am talking about, and could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

- NICE IF IT HAD MORE THAN ONE DRESS ,WHY NOT LET PEOPLE PLACE ADDS FOR FREE IN NOVEMBER !!!! (NT) -- MOM, 10:32:25 11/03/09 Tue
- You need to have a place for archived dresses and give the seller an option to have the dress archived as well. It needs to be organized by "age" or "size" or at the very least a clickable tab for the date so those can go and look back at past dresses for sale. (NT) -- not user/seller friendly, 10:38:09 11/03/09 Tue
- $6 for a one day listing seems high too. I can list my dress indefinitely for free on dance.net or for a fee (less than $20) on dance-again and irishdancingexchange, so how is this beneficial? (NT) -- K, 10:45:17 11/03/09 Tue
- You say you've been up since Nov 1st but all can find is today's dress and yesterdays. This will not work for anyone if you don't have an organized archive. (NT) -- certainly not worth $6, 11:14:52 11/03/09 Tue
- Soooo, you need to ck everyday to find the right sz & colors, and saying that you do, you have a max of 2 days to make a decision? Not practical IMO (NT) -- Debra, 17:30:20 11/03/09 Tue
