  - I'm replying here because that thread was getting cranky. :) At our school, we tan because our (USA) TC got criticized by an Irish AD at Worlds one year for our dancers' pasty white legs. Basically, in ID, trends start in Ireland and the rest of the world follows. Do all ADs care? I doubt it, but our TC doesn't want us to risk it!       - My DD tans, but we don't use tanning beds or spray, & neither does the rest of her team. Some years they've gone the self-tanning lotion route, other years they used make-up like Rimmel or Sally Hansen. There are lots of non-banned options. Black tights are an option, too, I suppose. - DO NOT plan to wear new hardshoes at camp. Although you do wear hardshoes often it's not enough to break them in and with the heat/sweat it's a bad idea. -- (more inside), 10:21:50 05/23/13 Thu

My DD's TC is out sick since March and won't be back to classes til september (had major surgery). Our class is very small, only 6 dancers, only 3 who compete regularly. We have no senior dancer able to take the class, or other TC locally who would take over as the class is too small. -- mum, 03:30:28 05/23/13 Thu
If DD was to practice with another local school until September, with the mutual agreement of both her own TC and the other TC, would this be allowed? Neither TC is an adjudicator so how would that work for association? She is not practicing well on her own and needs the discipline of a class to push her.

- There are two issues. The six month ban and the association rule. Your situation may be categorized under the wording of "extreme circumstance" and an exemption might be permitted in regards to the 6-month competition ban. - I went to an excellent physiotherapist who taught me how to strengthen and tape properly. Unfortunately, I overpronate when I walk, so I have had to keep up this strengthening for fear of my arches continiuing to fall. (NT) -- asdfd, 14:47:45 05/22/13 Wed

I was curious if being on teams affects your ability to concentrate more on solos, and make you less likely to be a top 10 person in a major comp. Are there any World champs that dance on teams?

- We have one National Champ at our school - also top 10 at Worlds once; she's required to do teams just like everyone else. But it would be better for all concerned if no one was forced to do teams. (NT) -- Our teams are not great., 10:01:05 05/22/13 Wed

- You'll see a mixture of both, and I don't think teams make a difference to being a solo World Champ. It's not a hinderance - can be considered good "cross training" and helps them focus primarely on posture and the basics. - In our school, teams are required for all. This year with worlds in US, our school sent multiple teams, and way too much time was spent on preparing them, and very little time was given to those that qualified.     - To revive ceilis? There are so many in the USA alone that a 3rd round was required for some competitions in Boston. - No. Jumping on a trampoline actually weakens muscles since it pushes you back up, you don't actually use many jumping muscles. It will help with point, but won't lighten your steps. - When I was researching them before we purchased one, injuries are caused by flips mostly. The kids are not allowed to do these, we only allow 2 in it and they have to be roughly the same size. Tanning? I just don't get it. I'm not trying to cause an issue here-- but I want to know if tanning is really an essential necessity? -- (read inside), 13:15:22 05/16/13 Thu
What does it give the dancer -- an edge because of the brownish/orangish glow? And if so, isn't that sad to think that a fake tan would somehow influence a judge's opinion? Is there any practical value here? Does it enhance muscle tone or definition? Cause one to dance better? Or are we creating a different version of Toddlers and Tiaras or new generation of Malibu Barbie? Maybe now white legs would create more of a stir since they would stand out against the sea of orange and brown. Are there any TOP dancers who do not use fake spray tan? Just wondering...

- If you look at a group of dancers, one of whom is not tanned, you will notice a difference. Unfortunately, it just isn't very attractive to see pasty white legs. Why would a dancer not try to look her best? The only dancers I know of that don't tan, are those who are naturally darker-complexioned, or who can get a dark natural tan.         some sun is necessary for vit. d production not to mention the psychological benefits of sunlight. i don't think anyone is advocating slathering on oil and baking for hours but i do let my kids play outside. skin colour is related to latitud because sunlight is so vital to good health.         The thing is for people like me and my dds, any sun exposure, whether just playing outdoors or deliberately baking for hours will have the same effect: we turn bright red, it all peels off, and we're back to being pale. - The way you framed your question pretty much says you don't like the tan, then don't do it. Stark white legs are hard to look at. Fake tan has been part of everyday irish fashion for awhile.         Well I won't assume all TCs are like ours, but it matters to our TC how you look, because a) you are representing the school and b) TC wants you to do well.
