Just curious what happened with the missed recall in the U10 line. In looking at the scores, there is a dancer in the top 20 with no scores for the first round. The dancer before and after her WQd, but she did not. So can we assume that this dancer should not have recalled at all? They announced the dancer who should have recalled at awards, but sadly she did not get to dance her third round. This did not effect my daughter directly, but I felt so bad for the dancer who should have done her 3rd round. Would love to know what happened if anyone has any insight.

- What’s with all the negativity towards adults? If you’re not an adult dancer, you really don’t need to worry about us. -- More inside…, 10:19:00 07/04/24 Thu
Saying that you’re “no fan of the adult” categories, that we want to “have our cake and eat it too,” that we get “an inch and want a mile,” why? If you’re an adult dancer, you’re absolutely entitled to an opinion. If you’re not, you don’t need to worry about us.
A professional ballerina in her 20s, who danced as a child, won adult champs yesterday at NANS over a 65 year old dancer who started twenty years ago. No bad words for either of them, they both put it all out there. But that’s not an even playing field. If anything similar happened in your kids’ categories, you’d be up in arms.
Some adults want more levels, others want an age split, and some want to have a shot at worlds. There’s nothing wrong with any of those. We pay our tuition, we go to class multiple times every week on top of doing all the things that YOU do - work, take care of our families, households, etc. Why don’t we deserve the same respect?
What if you grew up, not living near a school, before online class existed? What if your parents couldn’t afford it? What if you just didn’t discover your love for it until you were older? Why should anything of these things diminish the validity of adult dancers?
CLRG took decades to recognize us. And for an organization that is strapped for cash, they’re not taking full advantage of the adults who want to compete. We have the money and we’re willing to spend it if the right opportunities present themselves. A lot of adults didn’t show up to nationals because there was no age split, and they knew they couldn’t compete against somebody half their age or even younger.
Also, I’m amazed at the complaining about adults when so many of you are just brushing off the *gestures around* ENTIRE CHEATING SCANDAL. Is that really where your priorities are?
It’s also just not reality for a dancer in their 50s or 60s or even 40s to compete at the exact same level as people half their age. Yes, there are a few who are gifted with those genetics but, for most of us, our bodies can’t keep up with our ambition. We live with that, we dance with injuries. But to say that some of these adult champs should compete against senior ladies or not dance at all is ludicrous. Notice that the younger champs don’t do the same level of choreography as senior ladies. Why should it be expected of adults?
There are adult leagues for almost every sport, some of them competitive. They don’t expect adults to perform like children, why should irish dance be any different?
Finally, stop gate keeping the sport. It’s for everybody. Adult dancers love watching your kids dance and cheering them on. We’re all in this for the same reasons. If you’re jealous that there IS an adult category and you’ve never danced before, try a class! We’re supportive of all dancers, regardless of age. And it’s never too late to start.

- Let’s give the adults the dignity they deserve. All adult-specific competitions needs to be dropped and age groups need to be expanded. -- Simple and equitable, 11:55:01 07/02/24 Tue
CLRG should standardize ALL dancers under a single set of grade and championship levels and have age groups that reflect ALL dancers. There should be a single progression as follows: beginner, advanced beginner, novice, prizewinner, preliminary championship, and open championship. Those are the only categories available to every dancer who wishes to compete.
The same goes for regional competitions, national competitions, all-Irelands, and worlds. Single-age age groups up to under 20, then under 25, under 30, under 40, and 40 and over.
This would standardize competitions worldwide and give EVERY dancer the opportunity to qualify for the highest level of competition. The expanded age groups would help alleviate stylistic differences between adult dancers who started as children and those who started as adults. Age groups are the only equalizer you need.
The solution of having adults and advanced adults doesn’t solve anything. Not only does it block dancers from having the opportunity to qualify for worlds, it also forces dancers who are decades in age apart to compete against each other.

The undercurrent of IDTANA planning a breakaway from CLRG has everyone on edge. There is so much behind-the-scenes plotting and planning going on prior to the in-person meetings where BIG decisions will be made.
The joy is gone. The excitement is gone. It is dreary and sad here. Teacher instructed our dancers not to talk to anyone in the fear that they'll be asked for their opinion on the CLRG split. There is so much paranoia.

- Why all the Texas hate? -- NAIDC senior lady, 18:44:15 06/26/24 Wed
I get that it’s hot in Texas but I can’t remember people complaining this much about the weather in Nashville or Orlando, which are not known for cool summers. The hotel is air conditioned. There’s a major airport so airfare is affordable from most places, there’s a free waterpark with admission. If you want to add on a vacation rent a car or take the bus to Austin or San Antonio if Dallas’ offerings aren’t to your liking. So I mean this genuinely — why is everyone SO freaked out about the heat or tourism opportunities?

TC said it’s “certain schools” turns to get their good placements and that this “won’t be our year.” DD was in tears after class and I nearly was too thinking about the hours of driving to extra classes, the thousands spent on the new diamanté socks and dresses, the ridiculous airfare to blazing hot Texas, and all the summer fun my daughter has given up to try to do well at NANS. Over 20% of the registered NAIDC dancers at our school will not be attending. This is significant because dancers from our school almost NEVER drop out. Once you sign up for a major, you also sign up for hundreds of dollars of extra classes and workshops. Parents are willing to cut their loses because they are so disgusted with the cheating and the non-response from our Irish dancing organizations.
We are still attending but are not thrilled about Texas nor the terrible organization of the event so far. The Southern Region committee dropped the ball on securing enough rooms at a venue that is hard to get to and didn't bother to arrange transportation to and from the Gaylord.
Just wait for the shocking cheap painted plywood stages they go with. Always plenty of falls and injuries.

- OFA Friendship Feis welcomes all of you! Especially Adult Dancers! -- OFA Friendship Feis, 13:13:59 05/29/24 Wed
On behalf of the OFA Friendship Feis, we warmly invite all of you to join us for our 9th annual feis in St. Louis, MO July 27th-28th.
-
This year, we are taking our adult comps to the next level, and we're hoping we can get a significant number of competitors to join us! Here's what's going on:
-
We are going to hold an Adult Extravaganza on Saturday evening, 7/27, where we run all adult grade level and team competitions, followed by an adult dancer get-together/social. Quickfeis is labeling this as a "Pre-feis", but just consider it an adult "second chance" opportunity! On Sunday, 7/28, we will offer adult grade competitions again, as well as all categories of adult championships, assumining we have entries for everything!
-
Our feis is a double-feis weekend. On Saturday day, our BFFs at the Clarkson School of Irish Dance are hosting the An Samhra Feis at the same venue. They are also offering grade exams on Friday, 7/26 at their studio a few miles from the hotel. If desired, you can hit grade exams, two full feiseanna, second chance comps for adult grade levels and Beg 2-PC for non-adult dancers, plus a chance to meet up and hang out with other members of the adult Irish dance community!

The feis is being held at the St. Louis Hilton-Frontenac, convenient to Lambert Airport, and located right off Interstate 64. It has a beautiful outdoor pool, fitness center and sauna, is located across the street from a luxury shopping mall (Plaza Frontenac), a boutique grocery store, several delicious restaurants, and of course, a Starbucks!. The hotel feis rate is $159, and can be booked by calling 314-993-1100 with code IRD24.

Our theme is, of course, Friendship! We'll have friendship bracelets for all, an opportunity to give and receive messages of good luck and encouragement, and we are confident you'll head home with new friends!

It's not just for adults! We have a ton of fun things in store for our non-adult dancers as well! Registration is now open at www.quickfeis.com. Please consider joining us for this special weekend!

- This has to be the years that the number of qualifiers are reduced and the heats are eliminated. -- Worlds should be max 5 days., 09:33:17 05/26/24 Sun
1) Limit number of world qualifiers to top 5 + 5% of total competitors (rounded down) with NO additional spots for WMH:
Up to 20 dancers: 5 qualifiers
21-39 dancers: 6 qualifiers
40-59 dancers: 7 qualifiers etc.
2) No secondary or tertiary qualifying opportunities. Your regional Oireachtas is the ONLY qualifying opportunity and no injury/illness/other petitions are accepted. Therefore, All-Irelands, NAIDC, and any other national Oireachtas are not treated as world qualifying events.
3) No automatic qualifications to worlds. EVERYONE has to qualify at their regional Oireachtas regardless of national placement or WMH status.
4) Only 3 rounds at worlds with recall set at 50% up to max of 50.
5) Teams, choreography, and dance dramas need to place in top 50% at regional Oireachtas to be eligible to enter worlds.
6) Elimination of any special competitions, opening/closing ceremonies, balls, special memorials or presentations etc. Pageantry and opulence is a bad look for CLRG at this point. This should be a barebones, humble, and very muted worlds where the dancing and dancers are the only aspects highlighted.

- Some ideas for cost-saving -- and reform, 08:23:56 05/26/24 Sun
Know it likely won’t make a difference but have to put it out there somehow, maybe more as therapeutic benefit for me:
- Grades until a few years ago were profitable. The costs are apparently in mailing certificates for 11 and 12 — which they don’t even keep record of. Make examiners put each dancers grade in a central google form (dancers given a unique ID number in case two girls have the same name) so there’s a record,
and then give the certificates as emailed printable downloads that dancers can print themselves. Less records lost too.
— Teachers exams lost $30K. Grades tests all the dances. Cut the dancing portion and do the (shorter) testing portion in 1 day at 1 test center per country. Or put the test in a spare ballroom at Nationals one day.
— Flights to majors with CLRG meetings paid for (40K?) for board members? No. They’d have gone anyway. Switch to zoom or say flights paid for only if TCs have less than 3 students competing.
— Paying people to give the wristbands at worlds? Get local dancers to volunteer in exchange for free entry to watch another day, many would.
— Ask (and eventually pay) a senior dancer or teacher with experience in grant writing to get grants from cultural orgs and corporate sponsors because it’s ABSURD how few sponsorships we have
—switch worlds back to 1 day competitions, it’s better that than no Worlds at all
— have a competitive bid process for venues rather than picking a location and then a specific venue
— have larger schools pay a larger regional registration fee than smaller schools, so small TCs don’t have to close up shop or merge, if fees must be raised for them.
— give TCs voting rights at CLRG meetings!!! It’s absurd that their incomes and their dancers can be so affected and they get no say on any of this. TCs aren’t the enemy and often really do care about their dancers, but they have no way to stop measures against their dancers interests.
— get rid of the office in Dublin, where real estate is so expensive, and put it in a cheaper area.
I know I’m just a senior dancer, and everyone will probably think these ideas are silly. But we’ve all worked so hard and it would be heartbreaking to see ID disintegrate like this. Any other ideas?
PS: CLRG should have a meeting for parents / dancers to ask questions too, not just teachers!!!

It's a qualifier and most ppl are there to attempt to qualify, not for "the love of the sport".
People are literally wasting thousands of dollars (new dresses, makeup/wig appointments, hotels, food, flights).
Worlds is in jeopardy- the org is nearly bankrupt.
That trip to Grapevine Texas (not even a destination location) is going to be a bitter memory for sure.
