  Hello,
  
  We are looking to get my 5-year-old daughter into Irish Dance. We live in an area of the US where there are several schools. Do you think there are advantages to dancing for a teacher who judges? I am a former professional dancer (ballet, not Irish) and I’ve talked to several moms whose kids Irish dance so I’m not totally naive. They have all suggested that kids who dance for teachers who judge get better scores because other judges try to get quid pro quo scores for their own dancers. Thoughts? Part of me knows this is just how things are and part of me wants nothing to do with a system that works this way. Thanks!

  • I believe there is an advantage not because of quid pro quo, but because the AD sees what's current, sees a huge variety of dancing, both good and not so good, and is meticulous in correcting their dancers. (NT) -- just my opinion...., 16:11:25 09/05/26 Sat
  • Also consider a teacher might be a judge, but might not work many feiseanna. Or might mainly judge feiseanna and not teach many days a week. There are many more TCs that go to a feis every weekend and watch comps and watch their students to give the best corrections and stay up to date with trends.   400$+ a dancer for just registration is heartbreaking for all the athletes who have been putting in the hours, the blood, the sweat, the blisters and the tears and pushed through it all for something they love. Easterns is supposed to be a qualifying event which showcases the top in our country. To all the teachers who voted for this pricing, are you really that out of touch with reality? Those who voted against, thank you and for those who didn't vote, why didn't you represent your families?
  To the chair who has responded in his email that this is just post covid pricing and that our members want a top of the line event- please poll your actual membership. In a sport where the corruption and nepotism levels are higher than most, be a leader in a transparent process. As Canadians we are all for supporting local, but should the tabulation company be someone's who has competitors in the competition? With all due respect, multiple members have offered their skillset to offer cheaper venue alternatives, maybe it's time to rethink the original purpose of this event. As someone posted below, how is a qualifying event on our own soil costing more than registration for international competitions even with our weak exchange rate?

  I just discovered the teacher of my child is a champ dancer competing with another TCRG at a different school. She isn’t certified, and the certified teacher just comes intermittently.
  
  Is this allowed according to the rules? I don’t know that the other TC knows about it but our occasional teacher insists it’s fine since they don’t directly teach the dancer that teaches our class.

  • It's not a real major/qualifier, is at a terrible time of year right before AIs, and NAIDC will be in Calgary. Doubt the Eastern Canadians will travel to Calgary twice in six months. • NANS Judging question: Is it odd that one judge gave the majority of dancers the same score for SET? (99.#). Straight down the column. A few 98s here or there.   • The raw points don’t matter. What matters is the ranking. Some judges use high 90s, others use low 80s. Each judge’s score are ranked and then awarded Irish points. -- More inside, 09:25:35 07/09/26 Thu

  I danced up through Open Champs back in the day.. flash forward - my little one is 3 now and I am so torn on whether or not I even want her to dance..
  
  My main issue is that I am not impressed with the competitive world of Irish dance.. I appreciate that it holds the dancing to standards, but I don't do drama, politics, I hate the fact that they wear wings, tanner, and 1$k dresses..

  • There are many options out there, and different organisations. Check out what is around you. Several organisations do not allow makeup, etc for young dancers, and avoid the craziness.   Just because you have a WORLD CHAMPION or two doesnt mean your other dancers, that make up your entire academy, do not exist.
  
  Is it fair to attend a Feis a WC is dancing at, only to leave when they have finished and not watch all your other dancers or attend any of their feises.
  
  Is it fair to only celebrate the WCs championship wins at local feises on your social media and ignore your other champions, podium places and special achievers that are winning at the same feises and all the other feises they have been attending.
  
  With the Irish Nationals, Scottish Nationals and NAIDC upon us, please ensure all your dancers get the same level of input as your WCs. Who knows, you might even have more WCs if everyone got the same attention.
  
  And if not, don’t be surprised if there are transfers after NAIDC, with just a three month ban everyone will be out for the Os. And with Irish Dancing struggling on every level, now is not the time to be driving your business into the hands of others. So a plea, turn up for everyone and treat all your dancers fairly and evenly.

  Lately it seems that the number of people wanting to sit the TCRG or ADCRG examinations seems to far exceed the positions being made available. There are probably financial realities influencing these decisions, but it can feel quite discouraging.
  Many people are genuinely trying to stay involved in Irish dancing, continue learning, and contribute positively to the organisation and the next generation. When opportunities become so limited, it does make you question whether ongoing involvement is truly being encouraged or supported.
  What also makes it difficult is the feeling that those who simply want to work hard, progress, and contribute positively are now experiencing reduced opportunities because of the well-publicised cheating scandals, disputes and court proceedings of recent years which have clearly had major financial consequences for the organisation.   So I'm a former dancer, and was looking at this year's world results simply for fun (and also because I few people I used to know competed this year and I wanted to see how they did). When looking at results, I noticed that in some situations, there was a status in the results called "Aisling" instead of the R for recalled or MW for a medal holder. What exactly does that status mean? I've never seen it before and was curious.

• Many English qualifiers and top dancers missing at the worlds. -- qualifying space transfer, 00:21:17 04/07/26 Tue
  This is not critical of the dancers that didn’t attend world as I expect the cost is very difficult right now for many.
  
  My DD was very close to qualifying this year, we watched her agegroup and there were so many missing. I understand dancers want to dance their regional and secondary qualifier but it would be so much fairer if places could be passed down for those not able to travel.
  
  We watched the Under 15 girls. The North East region had 7 qualifiers, 3 didn’t dance including the runner up who is a globe holder. The South East region had 7 qualifiers, 4 didn’t dance including the runner up who recalls at all majors. The West Midlands region had 5 qualifiers, 2 didn’t dance including the runner up who recalls at all majors, the North West region had 6 qualifiers and again several didn’t dance.
  
  There were ten English qualifiers missing and those ten spaces would have been allowed others to participate in the worlds for a change. Surely it better for CLRG to allow this as they make money from the additional entries and most of the ten that were missing hadn’t entered anyway.
  
  Please think about changing the rules. Is it common for this many American or Canadian dancers to miss the worlds when it’s in Ireland? Is there any system in place to hand down qualifying spaces?

  Why do the World Championship sashes feature the American flag so prominently? I do not want to turn Worlds into a political issue, but it is hard to ignore how political everything feels right now. It is already difficult for many of us to travel to the U.S. given the current climate, including concerns around ICE and related policies.
  Most dancers at Worlds come from Europe or Canada, and many of us do not align with or feel comfortable supporting American politics. I would not feel proud wearing a sash that represents a country whose policies I strongly disagree with or find troubling.
  I also heard that the sashes may have been designed by someone from Ireland, which makes the choice even more confusing. Why make the American flag such a central feature, especially given the current global climate?
  If I were to win a sash, I honestly would not feel comfortable wearing it as it is or treating it as something I am proud of. I would not be surprised if dancers chose to cover or alter that part of the sash as a quiet form of protest. Even small gestures can matter.

  Hi there. There is so much confusion regarding the additional band required for worlds. I am not here to debate whether an additional $40 a day wristband is good or not. We all know it’s a money grab and rather disgusting. But with that being said, I’m seeing conflicting posts from CLRG. Some posts say they highly recommend advanced purchase of the wristbands to avoid crowds. But others say you must purchase them from the website ahead of time.
  There must be a QR code to scan or something at the venue to be able to get your daily admission wristband. Plans change people going change many are not 100% sure of their schedule till the day of. Might any of you have any information? Do you know for sure either way if we will be able to buy the $40 wristbands at the venue? Thanks so much.

  I know the answer has historically been Harney and O’Shea Chaplin. My understanding in talking to families from those schools is they have minimal senior teams at this moment and no room for a new transfer to join them. Are there any schools in this region fielding 18/19&O teams for majors? Maybe a school is building that age group up behind the scenes and it wouldn’t be obvious from results pages? Just so dejected trying to find a school to dance at as a senior. Appreciate any insight.

    • Brennan Lucey has a very good adult program. Doesn't have a ton of senior dancers, but has had pretty consistent ceili offerings for them at majors the past few years.
