Do we need to shield the violence that was supposedly protrayed during those times with current children?

I think it's important that parents have the right to decide if their children should see graphic violence. Movie ratings, while vague, give some indication of age appropriateness.

I don't think that the fact that the violence portrayed in the movie actually happened makes it any more age appropriate than a ficticious movie with violence. There are things that even I would prefer not to see or be exposed to and I certainly would not have a child watch 2 hours of torture.

Furthermore, I find it disturbing that parents *would* take children to see this movie -- the message of the bible and Jesus' "sacrifice" have flourished quite nicely in the last 2 millenia without Mel Gibson's assistance. I was traumatised as a child watching Snow White (that witch was very scary!) and as an adult watching Silence of the Lambs. I'd hate to consider the nightmares that this movie would have provoked had I been forced to see it.

As much as I'd like not to, I will adhere to the censorship policies of this board and not address any of the religious issues raised by the story of the crucifiction.

I'm curious about why, if you're parents are highly religious, you didn't feel like you could express your appreciation for the film at the end? I'd think they'd be happy to know that the film had such a strong impact on you . . .
