I think it is a lot of immature computer geeks who feel they have no power in their life, are caught up in a life-style they don't care for, and are using the viruses to feel a sense of power in their lives, to have a silent accomplishment so that they know they affected the greater world around them.

I think assigning a larger, paranoid role to the whole thing is like thinking that violence in the schools is part of a larger scheme somewhere by someone to dismantle the school system. I doubt it. I also doubt the "grand scheme" idea of computer viruses.
