Willow, Xander, or Giles consider battling evil merely an adventure, if that's what you're implying. Perhaps in the beginning, yes, they thought it was cool. But since then they've fought the good fight to help others and because they care about Buffy. And yes, she died twice, I'm not knocking her courage, but at times she is quite self-involved--but they allow her to be, because she is in fact special. Perhaps I started disliking her because over the past few seasons we really haven't seen a sweet side to her, like we did when she was with Angel. Their relationship showed us that she was vulnerable--now she just seems too frigid. AHHH I miss Angel on Buffy--but I like him in LA as well. S1-3 were just awesome--always my favs--you're right there have been some great eps--but not great seasons.
