Hi ladies,

First, let me apologize that this isn't about Stuart, but I need some advice and I wonder if you ladies (and guys) will help me?

I am just starting to plan my 'trip of a lifetime' with my family, from Australia to the UK mid next year, and I am so looking forward to finally seeing the part of the world I spent my early teens dreaming about! However, other than Loch Ness, Edinburgh Castle and the Edinburgh Festival, I have no idea where to go or what to see in Bonny Scotland.

So, here's where you come in! If you have any ideas that aren't in the tourist mags - 'real' Scotland, places to go, places to eat, music, culture, lovely parks, anything! - I would really appreciate you dropping me a line. I've added my email so you don't have to clutter up this board.

Thank you so much (in anticipation)!

Michelle

Good morning BCR fans.

I'm posting this message in the hope that somebody can offer me a piece of advice on some memorabilia that I've picked up.

Basically, I'm a local newspaper reporter from Fife, Scotland and yesterday a reader came into our office.

He had picked up a ring bound folder at a car boot sale which is full of rollers receipts from early gig booking, correspendence with Paton regarding gig bookings/fan club pictures etc and also letters from record label people.

The guy who picked this folder up is interested in its value and I'd like to do a little story on him picking up this piece of rollers 'treasure' if that is in fact what it is.

Can anybody advise me if there's an official band fan club anywhere where I can speak with somebody regarding this man's find?

My e-mail address is scott.inglis@fifetoday.co.uk

Thanks very much people - all the very best.

John's quiet life till son became a Bay City Roller
(John is Stuart's dad)

WHEN John Wood opened a copy of the Evening News this week, his memories of his school days at Holy Cross Academy came flooding back.

The school is this week celebrating its centenary and the 78-year-old, of Fairmilehead, attended Holy Cross in the 1930s and 40s.

"I loved it," he chuckles. "Even though we had strict teachers. Our French teacher kept a strap with her and would hADVERTISEMENTit it on our desks."

When war broke out, most of the male teachers were called up to serve in the army.

John left school at 14 and worked as a telegram messenger boy.

"There were around 140 messengers and we delivered telegrams to all corners of the city on bicycles, in all kinds of weather," he recalls. "And we would get stationed in different offices all over the city so I got to know the city well. I also got given indoor duties, putting telegrams in envelopes."

After this, John went on to spend more than 20 years in the Royal Naval Reserve, working as a petty officer.

He then joined the Royal Mail, working his way up through the ranks to chief inspector.

John was a member of St Mary's Cathedral choir and it was during a visit there that he met his wife Joan. They courted for five years, married at St Mary's, settled in Marchmont, and had three sons, Gordon, Stuart and Ronald.

The family enjoyed the quiet surroundings of their neighbourhood - with views of the Forth and the Castle - until Stuart found global fame.

At 17, the guitarist joined the Bay City Rollers, selling more than 120 million records in the 1970s. And for the Wood family things changed forever.

"We got hassled from fans from all over the world," says John. "They would hang around outside the house and take anything they could find.

"The neighbours' wall would be covered in graffiti and I had to buy gallons of paint and cover over it. Then I bought some hardboard and asked fans to use that. It filled up in two days.

"We had been there for 23 years but it became so crazy we decided to move to Fairmilehead where we've lived ever since."

I've only just discovered this site - thanks to Kim visiting the Derek board, which has been so much fun to be part of! (great gals over there). Just want to say hi to everyone. Love all the pics and clips on here! I'm a Woodz fan from way back like the rest of you 'o) He's just too cute for words! I'm Australian originally, but have been living in England now for 13 years. I have pretty limited time at the moment as I'm finishing up a huge doctoral project I've been working on for 6 years! I've submitted but still have a presentation to do in a couple of weeks and then an oral exam in Jan. bleeeeuuuhh! (would much rather be playing!) - but would love to pop by here every now and then.. Love to all - Louise 'o) x

It's A Game (I just made this one tonight)
The "It's A Game" year was my favorite look and time for the fab 4. I think I was just so shocked when they showed up on tv with this new look....I wasn't sure how to take the "Eric's socks look with the leather jacket & shorts"...it grew me on me over the years apparently. I think that Les, Woody and Derek never looked any better than when they were doing this album.

Hey gals! It's your long lost forum owner.... Life has really gotten in the way of fun the last couple of years unfortunately and I haven't been around. Sorry about that. I promise that I will TRY to do better. TRY!!!

I'm wondering... Does anyone know where you can store your background images online nowadays? I'm not sure if it was my move from webtv or the closing of AOL's hometown pages that caused my background to disappear or what, but I want it back. :-(

I will try to be back soon....Love all the pictures that are being posted. DROOL all over my keyboard. :-)

I heard that there were plans for a Rollerfest in Oct 2009 in Vegas. Has anyone heard this and if so can you give me details? Also, does anyone know of any rollerfests in the works any where else. I have wanted to go over the years but just have not managed to. I am Carol and I grew up in Los Angeles where I was lucky to see the Rollers several times. I now live in Georgia and would love to get emails from other roller fans. If you like you can email me at frozengirlsicle@aol.com and again if anyone has Rollerfest info share it. THANKS ..
