Subject: Photo Contest

Are all the photo contests on the web rigged? My daughter has awesome pictures but she hasn't even won fees off? It seems like the same girls win all the time. Am I just imagining this? What are the fair photo contests and which ones should we stay away from?

I have recently become totally disgusted with online photo contests. I don't mind not winning, but some of the photos that place over my daughter's is a joke. Something just isn't right. My daughter isn't the only one who gets screwed, either. I've seen several girls with AWESOME photos get left out. It makes no sense. The same ones might win due to photographer payoffs. Maybe they are paying for them to win so that people will see that their pictures are winning and have to have their pictures made by them!! I have to agree. My daughter has awesome photos but for some reason she also don't place in online photo contests. We entered Dolls for Dolls last month and she didn't get anything.       - I just went and looked. Another thing that I have noticed with D.H contests is why so many ties? Every single month the top 15 turns into 25 or 30 in all of her contests. I'm sorry but I can see 1 or 2 here and there but if her so called judges knew what the hell they were doing that would not happen. Then I of course feel sorry for the moms of babies who think they actually have a chance because they really don't.     - At the risk of being bashed, I always have at least 4 judges every month, 5 when i can get that many who aren't busy. My judges are experienced judges who have judges at every level of pageantry, and in all types of pageants. I have photographers (not well known ones that have taken ANY of the photos being judged) as well a some pageant moms. Just because someone is a pageant mom doesn't make them totally unqualified to judge. I also like to get judges from various regions (makes it harder to have 5 judges) each month.     - I posted this before but it didn't get through moderatin for some reason: I ALWAYS use at least 4 judges from different regions of the country. I use 5 or 6 when I can get that many so I can drop the high score and low score. It's difficult when you don't want judges who know all the kids. Please don't assume that ALL contests are in it for themselves. I've been open for over a year and have only made a profit 2 months and it wasn't enough to get excited about.     - I have been a pc judge for over a year and I disagree that pc judges are not qualified. I am a former photographer(not pageant), I have also judged local and state level pageants. Yes I am a pageant mom, but who else thinks that they can pick a perfect winner everytime other than a pageant mom!! I have never used any of thephotographers for my dd photo, so I don't know any of the photographers work. Anyway the person who should win the award on most of the pics is the touch up person. - Unforgetable faces strikes again with a BTK photo that did't deserve it. Sorry, crop the face of the baby winner....no way. Since when did we stop looking at features like noses, etc. to define beauty? I am not sure who took the older winners photo. The baby winner was not the prettiest one though. SAVE YOUR MONEY FROM NOW ON! Better yet, bring that photo up and put any of the top 5 against it and ask anyone to look at the computer screen and say who is facially prettier. 99% will not choose the photo that won.     - There are certain features that are considered classic beauty by everyone. You look at features....meaning noses, chins, etc. They are supposed to be pretty, dainty, symmetrical, etc. If you know nothing about what the definition of classic beauty is you should be in another hobby. Large noses, close set eyes, large chins, pointy chins, too large faces, too wide noses, etc. are just some features that are not considered beautiful unless you have blinders on.     - Sorry you feel this way. No I dont pick my winners, I wish it was that easy. Since I've been online and involved in contests for almost 4 years it's not a problem for me to find qualified persons to judge. They dont have to "sit there all day and wait". I'm the one who stays up and puts the contestants photos up right after deadline so they'll be ready in the morning to be judged. And I pay my judges instead of giving free entries. It's only 10 bucks but if they dont get the scores to me by 5pm they don't get paid. Maybe that makes a difference ! Who knows. I own a photo contest, only a few of the banner girls have entered my contest so far and their moms send the name of the photographer. I want to write back that I do not care. I don't know if they are sending it for copyright info or what. But from reading these boards. I do not want to know who the photographer is.     - There are some wonderful contests and fair directors out there. Your best bet is just to try them out yourself. Everyone will always have different opinions and ideas on what a good contest is. Some Tips: First off, no not all photo contests are on the up and up. We learned that with M$F. But then not all pageants are either. You take a risk with every area of pageantry but you take it because you love pageantry.
