Christianity is not the King of Religion, there are also Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, etc etc people out there and why should they all be forced to say Christian prayers in school just because they live in the USA? It's like saying "you live in this country and speak English, therefore you must say a prayer to Jesus in school", are you kidding me?
No, that isn't what they are saying, that your children have to pray, unless you go to a private school like what I choose to send my kids to where religion was taught so they would understand their importance in life and stay on a path that will lead them to the pearly gates of Heaven. I honestly don't care what others believe or don't believe. The thing that bothers me most is they try to tell others what they can and can't do. And if they don't want their child to pray or be taught religion, trust me, their rights are protected, so much so that they feel it is ok to banish prayer from the schools all together.
It was just on the news here last evening, they put a trailer on the schools property to teach Chrisianity to the studends who parents approve. A few choice people who don't, object to the trailer being on school property. It is appauling to me, when it doesn't effect them in the least, they have the choice to have their child involved or not.So with heavy heart they want to dictate to anyone else that supports such a program.
To me it doesn't matter if it is in the schools. Faith and religion and belief in God has to stem from a childs home life. Just because they teach it in school doesn't mean the child is going to practice it in life. It has to stem from their home base. Parents are the most influencial to a childs belief over that of any teacher or church group who might want to help the child gain strong roots within themselves. To have a higher power that guides them into the light.
It is great that you came out beautifully Myst, but, i know plenty of young adults who struggle a great deal in life because they haven't been taught or found Gods love. And please, don't make the few bad apples who use Gods name in vain to kill and harm others at the hand of God. I think everyone sees that they use Gods name in vain. Just like the Jim Bakers of the world who are controlled by satan and steal from their neighbors using his name in vain. I think we have all seen what the outcome of that is too. Their judgement day will come in this life or at the time of their death.
And I do believe their is life after death, with all my heart. That comes with my strong religious upbring and losing someone who had great faith. Without a doubt, with her passing does she affirm to me that their is love and life after death in the most unusal ways. Ways that I would only recogonize because she was such a powerful influence on my life since the time I was a child. Same goes for my children, they were given that strong base and I believe their presence in this world is for a reason because so many find reasons to shun it and blame it for the trouble in the world today. It is easy to blame religion and not look deeper to the hardened heart that makes them feel so rejected by it. Until they take responsiblity for their own actions and stop blaming religion will we find peace.
I think we are on the same page for the exception of the word religion Myst. As far as Bill Maher goes, it is his approach. When he speaks of such things he appears like a bitter man with a cold heart and demon squinty eyes. With every breath he takes when he speaks his opinion he uses his American right to free speech yet attacks Amerivcans as senseless for their belief in a higher power. I disagree with everything he says. I can't always tune in, there are days I have no tolerance for him and his message. It makes me feel angry and in turn, that is exactly the emotion he wants to bring out. His day will come as well, no matter whether he believes in it or not, the day will come when he is begging God's forgiveness. I hope they capture that on tape and expose it to the world. I do believe that we have a forgiving God if you ask, even in your darkest hour, but I do not believe he can be fooled by pety words from a man with obvious heavy heart to diss what so many live by and yes, to me that is anti American and anti God. I pray for those who are influenced by him and allow themselves to be pulled into his negativity. But, most times that is what you get from extreme left wing liberals. Something has happened over the course of their life that they feel so rejected by religion that they choose to pull others in their own path of self destruction. I can't imagine soaring through life with only one wing, limiting to say the least no matter how successful they may believe themselves to be.
And too funny that you would bring up Bill O'Reilly, (how weird is it that they all have Bill for their first name, even Brad can fit into that as Bill is short for William) He is calling Brad out on his stance on smoking pot. I had to laugh although I wish he would get to the real issue, his calling Brad out on his stance on religion. He should take it one step further and speak about that. So as I was enlightened that he spoke up against him, I wished he would of gone after the more important issue. His lack of religion while raising six innocent children.
I have to ask, if your parents didn't teach you about a specific religion, what did you have to create guidelines? Surely you knew and understand the 10 Commandments. I know children who don't and have no respect for life or forgiveness in their hearts for those they feel have wronged them. They turn to anger and satan and allow it to control their actions. Usually ending up in trouble and in some cases in jail. Or like Rachel says, pregnant and alone trying to face the world without any hope that God's love will carry them through and guide them to a peace knowing, they will never be sent more than they can handle in life.
So, in closing, yes their is an end in sight. heehee, it is ok that some people don't want religion, but, live and let live. That goes for those who do choose to acknowledge their chosen faith. Brad contradicts himself. He stands on no religion, well what happened to allowing people to live as they wish? He says it is religious groups who fight gay marriage. Once again, it is easiest to blame religion instead of getting to the core of the problem. In my opinion, people who truly have opened their hearts to God's love will accept people for who they are and allow them to choose their own path in life. I think the ones who protest the loudest are no different than people who live with heavy heart. Just because they shout, "I am a Christain!" doesn't mean they speak for all Christains. I think they sell the American people short who are religious short if they don't believe we can see that. It is no different than the gay men who have to make a point to those who are bothered by it to be extremely feminine. They don't do anything but hurt those who are homosexual and just want acceptance in this world. It is like blaming all gay men with the actions of the ones who take it too far extreme to make a point. They don't do anything to help the masses and just cause more disrespect because of their need to say, we are exactly what they think we are. They don't stand for the gay people I know and the fight for gay marriage isn't a battle that every gay person fights. There are some that just live their lifes to the fullest and pay no mind to what the world expects them to be. They are the ones that know and understand this world will evolve as it is meant to. I pray for them often, to keep the strength and rise above the bad reputation those poeple give them that speak out with such force. Just like the religious leaders who condone a way of life. Just because they shout it from the highest mountain, doewsn't mean they have the support from the entire Christain community. I am vocal, I choose to be. When someone claiming to be Christain disses a gay person for their lifestyle, it is easily handled by four simple words, "What would Jesus do?" I know you don't believe in Jesus but for the life me i will never understand that. This is a man who lived his life teaching others to accept people for who they are. He was a simple man and embraced everyone he crossed paths with. Made them feel God's love and unique in their gift to the world. His mother, who I honor, (and trust me, there are plenty of Christains that I know who diss me because of it) I can't imagine dissing a woman who watched her son tortured and beatened at the hands of such hatred. And for what, because he stood for those that they placed beneath them. Because they were threatened that he has a power of speaking God's word and easily finding people to follow him. Because of the uplifting manner he made others feel within themselves. A light that wouldn't have been there hadn't he taken time to care. It makes me sad that anyone could condone him for that. Still to this day. And I wonder, why has his name survived over years and years of generations? The answer is because he was meant to. Because his example of living is the example we should all attempt to follow in this ever changing world.Sometimes I want to cry at the lack of respect people give to his name. A respect I feel his name has earned. His life and the manner that he lived it was the true example of the manner one should behave. Too bad, this world and the people in it, who have been give such a privilaged life, feel the need to question it. Shame on them and I place Brad at the top of that list.
