i'm new here, so pardon anything i say that may offend anyone. ok.. first of all, does anyone know how miss chinatown work? i know it's a bit different from different cites. but i just wondered what some of the main requirements are. and about the pageant time. is it for the whole year? or just the summer? for my city, it says that you don't have to have a talent, but you can request a intructor to give you one. and for the sponsor thing, it's best to find your own, but if can't, then they'll find one for you. just want to get some things straight. does anyone know some of the facts for sure? i'm sure everyone here are nice and friendly, so i trust that i can ask all the questions i need here.

They usually look for a well rounded individual, good in everything (well balanced body shape, confident interview, strong stage presence and poise, elegant beauty). If this is your first pageant, I think you should not do the talent portion as it will distract you and take time away from concentrating on other parts of the competition, unless you are really really good at your talent and know what you're doing without needing any help. Have your city find the sponsor for you, that's one less thing you have to do. Usually the reign is for one year. Depending on your city, the queen & her court may or may not have many activities.

Again, everything is diff from city-city, also the facts may not always be firm as things change ALL the time. If you have activities and can not fulfill them, you can work them out w/ the pageant org. or they can take the title away from you & give it to someone else.

thanks for the info joyce. it sounds scary... haha, well, i'm not scared of it, but it sounds like it has to be very organnicezed. by the way, don't you have to have a talent? because i'm not super good in dancing, but that's the best out of all the rest i can think of, lol. are there going to be a lot of practices and you'll live away from home? for a while anyways?

you sound like someone who has experience with miss chinatown pagents. if i'm wrong, i'm sorry.

The pageants should be organized but don't expect them to be as there are a lot of people involved organizing the event and everyone has an opinion. I'm not sure if you have to have a talent in the city you're participating in, you'll have to ask them. Yes, you will be required to participate in the rehearsals and they are a drag so be prepared to spend long hours there. Why do you ask if you have to live away from home if you're competiting in your city?

[> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: I think each contestant is suppose to have a talent. ( I can always get into the "white girl" pageants, but no luck with the ethnic ones) When I was interviewed, the judges asked me what my talent would be, and since I was in fashion design at the time, I told them it would be a mini fashion show displaying my designs; they just gave me a funny look. I think, at least in Vancouver, they expect the contestants to have a "performing talent".

first of all, i'm not sure if i can sing, but it's not reuqired to have a talent, for my city anyways, but i'm not sure about later. but anyways, they can give you a talent that you're ok with. i think singing and dancing is the best. because in the tvb showbiz, you either know how to dance or sing. not everyone have to. but i thought that was a good thing. to Thu, you have been in a pagent? may i get your email please?

Hi Mali,
It doesn't matter which pageant you're entering, Miss America, Miss USA, Miss Chinatown, etc...they are all looking for that well-rounded girl. Someone who shines on stage, shows confidence but not stuck-up, elegence, poise, intelligence, etc...As for your talent, whatever you choose to do (fashion design, singing, dancing) just make sure it is awesome and blow their socks off! They are looking for entertaining that night also, so show them what you've got. Good Luck to you! I don't like giving out my email and besides I'm not good at returning emails, so this would be the best place to contact me. Any questions, just ask!

No problem, I don't know everything, but I'll help as much as possible. That's a tough question, I would probably do dancing and singing combined, something fast beat with lights flashing and a lot of energy. Or learn to play an instrument really well and fast enough for the pageant date.

It doesn't matter if you do it in Chinese or English, it just has to be really good. The judges are looking to be entertained during talent, either in english or chinese. You'll have to ask the pageant organizers how the questions will be handled. Answer it in a language that you are most comfortable with. But be aware that IF there are only English speaking judges, you might want to answer it in both English and Chinese. I would play the piano.
