OK, I'm all for dropping at LEAST 2 teams from MLB, let's be honest, there are a lot of guys in the game today who should never have seen anything past AA ball. Montreal is an obvious choice, hell, it may be 2 years before those Canadians even realize the team is gone, but Minnesota??? They had a 70% increase in ticket sales this year, they finally have the makings of a contender and were in the Central race basically all year, and all of a sudden they're on a deathwatch? They don't need to be eliminated, they need a new owner, plain and simple ( wouldn't Mark Cuban be the sweetest cure for the underspending Pohlad era?). The Marlins are also being eyed as a possibility, and again, ridiculous. They have one of the best young rotations I've ever seen put together, with more guys on the way, they have some very good offensive quasi-stars, and Dombrowski has built that team to succeed, it's just a matter of another year or so. Tampa Bay is the only other real choice to me that should even be considered. They're in their 4th season, and already they've had like 3 major roster overhauls. They don't have much if any fan support, they aren't going to be losing a lot by killing their minor league systems, and as in Montreal, it may take a few years for the senile Floridians to realize the team is gone, the few who realized there was even a team there to start with. All the game really needs to move ahead and be successful is new blood in the ownership boxes, guys less concerned with beer and hot dog revenues, and more concerned with the product they are putting ON the field. You don't have to spend like the Yankees or D-Backs to win, look at the strides the A's, Twins and ChiSox have been making with their youth movements, but you do have to give a shit about something more than money. Yes, it's a business, and businessmen are in it to make money, but businessmen who are also fans of the game are what we need now. Mr. Cuban has made his e-mail address available, Mr. Selig, perhaps he's waiting to hear from you.
