Assalam aliukom.
If I have a question about some religious matter is it sufficient to take the opinion of one scholar who are known to be knowledgeable,? Or can I submit my question to a number of scholars and choose whichever answer suits me?

Thank you.

As Salaamu ALaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

First of all, Islam is not based on Opinions of so called Scholars...Islam is based on the evidences of the Quran and the Sunnah.

The Prophet(saw) said, "I leave behind two things and whoever follows them will be rightly guided..The Book of Allah and my Example (Sunnah)." [Bukhari and Muslim]

A good scholar does not give you his opinion.. he gives you the rulings in accordance to What Allah or his Prophet(saw) said.

Most things in Islam are clearly defined as being either black or white..only a few areas of Islam are grey. It is in regards to these grey areas that the Scholars will then give you their opinion based on their interpretation of what Allah or the Prophet(saw)...but again.. they will back that opinion up with Sahih Evidences (daleel).

In cases such as this, you go with the opinion of the scholar who gives you the MOST authentic evidence to support his decision...you do not go hopping around looking for the one who gives his decision based on what you want it to be...

Again..."Stick to the Book of Allah and my Sunnah and you will never be led astray.." Muhammad (saw) [ Bukhari and Muslim]

AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST
