As salaamu alaykum,
I attempted to post or your message board, and cannot. I will be married in a week, insha Allah. My future husband is beginning to change his opinion on a plural marriage. I feel that my imaan may not be strong enough to handle this, si i would like to add in our contract that i have the right to divorce him, in the case that he does marry again, insha Allah. He refuses unless i supply proof that this is my right. Could you help, insha allah. Shukran

Salam Sister,

Am I allowed to read library books to improve my English language. There is a Qur'anic ayat that say every word that you utter there is an angel writing it all down.

And there are hadeeth that say speak good or keep silt.

My question is when i read library books to improve my English and the words that i utter will that be my bad deeds because it is useless talking is't it?

Reading text books that have nothing to do with islam e.g you are studying at college or university and you are studying Computers and you learn and read the computer books. on the day of judgment will that reading and uttering of the text book which has got nothing to do with Islam, be on the bad side of the scale or good side of the scale on the day of judgement?

Second question is, i know that going to college and university without free mixing is allowed in islam.

but going to school's, college's and universities which there is free mixing and may be your teacher is a female if you are a male student or if you are a female student and your teacher may be a male student. and in class you have to commuicate with each other on work.

My question relating to this is, is free mixing at any school's or college's allowed in islam even if you are desperate for gaining qualifations to find a job and to look after your family or support your family?

Some brother tell me that it is mujboori meaning necessary.

third question is even if you are at college. I see many muslim brother and sister doing alot of evil if you understand what i mean and i don't do anything and i ignore it and carry on with my work shouldn't i enjoy good and forbid evil? And if i don't what is the islamic punishment?

(Please can you answer the question and i apozise if these are long questions)

Salam from Ibrar

Is it permissible for a menustrating woman to hold a translation of the Qur'an (i.e. - Arabic on one side, English on the other side, commentary in the footnotes)?
I was once told that a book that is only 50 % Qur'an no longer qualifies as a mushaf and can therefore be handled by a woman during her period.
Is there any truth to this?
Also, someone told me that students and teachers of Qur'an are exexmpt from this restriction. I am studying Tajweed casually twice a week at the masjid... Can I be exempt for this?

salam u alaykun,
I have been attending a local masjid for the past ten years happily fulfilling my islamic duties. This all ended 2 years ago when i was verbally abused by the so called brothers there and told not to return because i am a kafir, and if i did return to the house of allah(saw) i will be risking injury. why such stern hostility? because i practiced my god given freedom of choice, and that was that i decided after years of conviction and study to change my religious perception from that of the Hanafi(sunni sect) to the Ahlul bayt or Shia sect. this attitude from my brothers has hurt and alienated me deeply, i love and miss them but they wont even hear my opinion, yet i know they always have friendly debates with christians and hindus, and after all i still confess that allah is the only god and muhammad is his last messenger. what do i do? any assistance would be appreciated. wa salam

Assalam Alaikum wa Rahmit Allahi wa Barakatu

Sahih Bukhari, Volume I, #764:

Narrated Rifa bin Rafi Az-Zuraqi(RA): One day we were praying behind the Prophet(sas). When he raised his head from bowing, he said "Sami' a-l-lahu liman hamida." A man behind him said, " Rabbana walakal hamd hamdan Kathiran taiyiban mubarakan fihi" ( O our Lord! All the praises are for You, many good and blessed praises). When the Prophet(sas) completed the prayer, he asked, " Who has said these words?" The man replied, "I." The Prophet(sas) said, " I saw over thirty angels competing to write it first."

What is the significance of thirty angels competing to write it first?
And are we allowed to say this even though there are dozens of hadiths that order us just to say rabbana wa lakal hamd?

Sister,
Can you please explain extensively why did the prophet Muhammed (PBUH) in sahih Burkari or sahih Muslim told that he forbade writing down the hadeeth and then i see in another hadeeth he (PBUH)said that one of the sihn before the day of judgement is that people will only belive in the qur'an and abandon the Sunnah like the quraniee and in another hadeeth on his last sermo to the people before he past away he said that hold on to the Qur'an and Sunnah.

My question is can you first explain the reason why the Prophet didn't allow the companions to write the hadeeth then aloud them again later on?

The people who are fighting the oppressive Israeli defense forces, is it considered Jihad. I mean fighting, like shooting back with weapons when Israel incursions into Palestinian territories, not suicide bombings in restaurants. also is the suicide bombings co0nsidered jihad, because the Prophet(sas) said that we shouldn't kill innocent women, children, and old people that are not participating in the battle. how could somebody be participating in a battle if they are just having a coffee. i am not saying it is right and i am not saying it is wrong, i dont know, thats why i want a scholars opinion.
Also i live in america and there is no way i could go to jihad half way across the world, is Allah going to punish me because i am not physically participating, but i have the intention in my heart because rasul said you should have the intentions.

Volume 8, number 561, bukhari:

Narrated Sahl: The Prophet (sas) said, " The people of Paradise will see the Ghuraf (special abodes) in paradise as you see a star in the sky." Abu Sa'id added: " As you see a glittering star in the eastern horizon and the western horizon."

I wanted to know how do you achieve getting one of these special abodes?

Also,

Volume 8, number 559, Bukhari:

Narrated Abu Huraira(ra): The Prophet(sas) said, " The width between the two shoulders of a Kafir(disbeleiver) will be equal to the distance covered by a fast rider in three days."

Does this refer to the Kafiroon in Hell?

Also,

a couple of days ago i asked the question on the board about the ayat from the glorious Qur'an, I kind of stated it wrong, what I meant was, the people being tormented in the grave, would they have the same sense of time in the grave like the beleivers, i hope you understand what i am trying to say.

i have a question concerning ayat 79:46.

"The Day they see it, (it will be) as if they had tarried but a single evening, or (at most till) the following morn!"

the tafseer of Yusuf Ali refers to how Death( time spent in the grave) will only feel like a single evening or at most till the following morn.

this ayat made me ponder. because i remeber reading in sahih al bukhari that Prophet Muhomme(sas) was walking by a graveyard and he put a stick or something that had moisture in it and asked Allah to with hold the punishments of the grave this person was receiving because he use to soak his clothing with his urine.

regarding to the ayat, now does this brief event of death(grave occupation) that is going to happen to all of us, is it going to be brief for only the pious or for everybody, pious and sinners, .etc.

Bis-millaahir RaHmaanir RaHeem

I am currently pregnant with my first baby and I am concerned about how he/she will be raised. My husband is a generous, good man but he has numerous bad habits that he is not willing to give up. He is impatient and expects marital problems to be solved within the time span of him arguing about it. He curses a great deal during argumentation and I have told numerous times that I find it disrespectful, and then he seems that he regrets it afterwards. He also says very hurtful things which are not necessary. He prays five times a day but has no desire to go to the masjid and I have spoken to him in regards to the importance of it. The last argument we have had was about moving to an area which has no masjid. He had given me the impression that the next time we moved it will be near a masjid and I have anticipated this because I want not only him to go to the masjid but I also want my child to be raised in an Islamic environment. I have been patient and try to overlook his faults, but he is not willing to improve himself, at least I can not see it. I want to learn how to help him and be patient myself in regards to his bad ways. I almost giving up. What do you suggest?

assalam alaikum wa rahmit Allahi wa barakatu

i was reading hadith the other day and i came across this hadith that made me think for about half an hour. it's from sahih-al bukhari

Volume 4, Book 54, Number 445:
Narrated Abu Dhar:

The Prophet said, "Gabriel said to me, 'Whoever amongst your followers die without having worshipped others besides Allah, will enter Paradise (or will not enter the (Hell) Fire)." The Prophet asked. "Even if he has committed illegal sexual intercourse or theft?" He replied, "Even then."

i was just wondering, did Allah make this law so more of his servants can be saved from the hell-fire, because Allah knows the future, and if you look around zina is like everywhere, can i get this interpratation from you because you are a scholar and you probably know more than me.

may Allah bless you and your family
jazak Allah khairun

Assalaamu alaikum,

Dear Sister,
I hope that you are able to give me some advise. I have been married nearly four years and have no children. I worked full time up until a month ago, it was a very good job but there was no job satisfaction. For the length of the marriage I have paid for all household items including utilities and mortgage. My husband does not contribute and I have never asked him to do so, his money mostly goes to meet his family's needs.

When I told my husband I applied for a teaching job he was not happy, because it is less money. He says that I should work harder for our future, and save money so that we can go visit his family and build a future for our selves

He does not believe me when I say that I am not able to save very much money and I give him reasons and I have even shown my bank statements but still he brings this up all the time. I am not a vain person and spend very little money on my self, I do not waste money, if I did I could understand why he harrasses every other month.

When I tell him what the husbands rights are and what a wifes rights are under islam he says nothing or says that other people's wife can save money, buy new cars and they have children and less money so why cant I

I do not understand why he mistrusts me so much or why he says such things to me. I am begining to think that he married me for economic reasons. Whats worse is that even his family ask him ("hasn't she got any money"). Two weeks after I started working from home, he quit his job.

I am working from home at the moment, I have found ways to supplement my income so that I can manage the bills.

I really do not know, what to do or how to act with him. This has gone on for 3 years, I feel very hurt and do not know who to turn to, or what to say.

please can you help

assalam alaikum

i have a question. i am memorizing the quaran, and i have the intention to memorize all of it. but say i die tommorrow, will that intention help me out any way in the hereafter, because i remember reading a sahih hadeeth that Allah(swt) counts your deeds according to your intention. the reason why i am asking this is because i have only memorized 17 surahs, and the rasul(sas) said that if you are alive in the morning don't expect to be alive in the evening, and if your alive in the evening don't expect to be alive in the morning. because of that hadeeth i am always expecting death to come on to me, because it can come at any time.

Bismihi-Ta'ala,

As-salamu aleiki wa rahmatollahi wa barakatuhu,

I have been married for about three years already and have a nice daughter, masha'allah. But my wife, who has been brought up in a family, which adheres to European way of life, refuses to perform salaat and wear a muslima head cover, as prescribed by Allah and His Messenger. I have been reading to her books on the foregoing issues; though she accepts these rulings mentally, she is too reluctant to start following Islam due to the society she had lived in.

My question is, how can I bring her closer to Islam?

Awaiting your reply,

Your brother,

AA,

I have read lots about the Hijab for a female in Islam. Recently I have read an article that claims the niqaab is fard. So, once again it brought great confusion to my head. He is the daleel that the article gave:

"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.)…" (An-Nur 24:31)

This article was by Shaikh Ibn Jibreen. Which is probally famous but I never heard of him. Can you please tell me whether the women's hijaab MUST include the niqaab?

Jazaki Allahu Khair Ukhti Laila,

Assalaamu alaikum sister,
I'm a newly reverted muslim who is trying to correct the mistakes of my past, you know right some of the wrongs i've done. A wrong that has haunted me for the last 11yrs is the true parentage of my son. You see 11 years ago I dated and fornicated with this guy I'll call Jessie we had dated for 18mos. During this time the man who I thought was the love of my life (Pete)was incarcerated Pete got out and I decided to go back to him. This was mid June I had last fornicated with Jessie the beginning of June. Mid June I left Jessie for Pete and immediately fornicated with him, hence my problem. I later found out I was pregnant and was afraid to tell Jessie ther was a chance that my baby might be his so I let Pete think for sure my baby was his.I married Pete and never told him of this. I have since divorced him and told Jessie that my son is his(which I truely believe because of the resemblance). Jessie has since built a relationship with my son, my only guilty feelings was that Jessie didn't know. Pete never took the time with my son even when we were married so my son don't want to be bothered with him anyway. Now that I'm muslim again do I need to tell Pete this when this could dissrupt my family. I have not told my son he looks at Jessie as his godfather but my muslim friend said I have to tell him. I told Jessie if he wanted me to tell him he might be his father I would but he said that he don't want to hurt him. What should I do, I made this problem and I'm ready to take what ever action to right it.

He also said that even if you watch the News, Documentery, scientific programmes it is still wrong when you watch the News you see women half naked women or women with-out a Scalf on and that isn't allowed in Islam. Documentry and scientific are sometime wrong because they don't belive there is a God, some science programme are based on Darwinisms theorie of evolution. Which can confuse kids and adults.

Also even if i agree with you. That watching these programmes is right can you answer, when people (human) images that present these T.V programmes are allowed in Islam?

Salam sister Laila,

The american statitics are telling that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Mainly in the west in America and England but NOT the fastest growing religion in the east. There are some kufars in the east that have become mulims.

But the question is what are the muslims in the west doing to help the muslims in the East. Thousands of people, muslims and non-muslims are all running to the western world. Why are muslims lacking help in helping the muslims of the east. Sister look carefully at the east and it's suffering that a muslim families goes through.

there are milliions and millions of muslim in the West which is excellent news. but why are we ignoring those who are killed, opressed, lifes with are destroyed. which we muslims should be helping. the people in the east are fighting while the people of the west live in luxerie.
There are verese in the Qur'an and Sunnah about the right way of doing Jihad but those people don't want to it and they sit home and eat. So the brothers family is killed in front of him in the eastern world and he is wating for the muslims to help, he is praying to Allah and the muslims is the west are looking at girls what chose does he have if the muslims of the west aren't doing nothing. The only thing he can do is blow him-self up.

Dear Sister,

If a unmarried Muslim man tries to force himself on a unmarried Muslim woman (rape) does she have to marry this man if he asks her? Won't it be hard for her to marry anyone else after this has happened? Also, should she take him to the police or should she forgive him and leave the punishment to God? Though the rape wasn't technically completed, it went very far and she is very traumatised, depressed, and feels very guilty and ashamed and sad after this experience.

As Salaamu Alaikoum,

For the Brother Farooq who posted the question here in regards to certain ayats of the Quran that talk about the jews and Christains who will be in heaven, first of all brother, we recommend everyone to purchase a Tafseer of the Quran so that you can better understand what you read. Inshallah here is what is meant by the Christains and Jews that will be in heaven:

What you refer to in your question is mentioned in two similar aayaat in the Qur’aan. The first of them is the aayah (interpretation of the meaning): “Verily, those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” [al-Baqarah 2:62]

The second is the aayah (interpretation of the meaning): “Surely, those who believe, those who are the Jews and the Sabians and the Christians – whosoever believed in Allaah and the Last Day, and worked righteousness, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” [al-Maa’idah 5:69]

In order to understand these aayaat correctly, we need to refer to the scholars of Tafseer (Qur’aanic commentary). The great Imaam Ismaa’eel ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy on him, said in his tafseer of the aayah from Soorat al-Baqarah:

“Allaah, may He be exalted, points out that whoever of the previous nations did well and was obedient, will have a good reward, and this will be the case for everyone who follows the Unlettered Prophet [Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) until the Hour comes – he will have eternal happiness, and they will not fear what they are going to face, nor will they grieve for what they have left behind. As Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): ‘No doubt! Verily, the awliya’ of Allaah [i.e., those who believe in the Oneness of Allaah and fear Allaah much, and love Allaah much], no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve.’ [Yoonus 10:62]. And Allaah tells us what the angels say to the believers at the time of death (interpretation of the meaning): ‘Verily, those who say, “Our Lord is Allaah,” then they istaqaamu [stood straight, i.e., truly followed Islam], on them the angels will descend (at the time of their death) (saying): “Fear not, nor grieve! But receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you have been promised!”’ [Fussilat 41:30]

As far as the Jews are concerning, their faith meant believing in the Tawraat (original Torah) and following the way of Moosa (peace be upon him) until ‘Eesa came, after which whoever continued to follow the Torah and the way of Moosa, and did not leave this and follow ‘Eesa, was doomed. As far as the Christians are concerned, their faith meant believing in the Injeel (original Gospel) and following the laws of ‘Eesa; whoever did this was a believer whose faith was acceptable to Allaah, until Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came, after which whoever did not follow Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and leave the way of ‘Eesa and the Injeel that he had been following before, was doomed.

The aayah (interpretation of the meaning), “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:85] is a statement that Allaah will not accept any way or deed from anyone, after sending His Final Messenger, except those that are in accordance with the laws of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Prior to this, however, anyone who followed the Prophet of his own time was on the Straight Path of salvation. So the Jews were those who followed Moosa (peace be upon him) and referred to the Tawraat for judgement at that time. When Allaah sent ‘Eesa (peace be upon him), the Children of Israel were obliged to follow him and obey him, and so they and others who followed him became Christians.. When Allaah sent Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), as the Final Prophet and a Messenger to all the children of Adam, all of mankind was obliged to believe in him and obey him, and refrain from what he prohibited. Those who did so are the true believers. The ummah (nation) of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) are called the believers because of their deep eemaan (faith) and conviction, and because they believe in all the past Prophets and in the prophesied events that are yet to come.”

Commenting on the aayah in Soorat al-Baqarah, Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

“What is meant is that every group believed in Allaah and the Last Day, which is the appointed Day of Reckoning, and did righteous deeds. But after Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was sent to both mankind and the jinn, true belief can only be in accordance with the way of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Whoever follows his way will not fear the future or grieve for what they leave behind.

So thus, the Christains and Jews that will be in heaven are those who TRULY followed the teachings of their holy books and their Prophets (Moses and Jesus) BEFORE Prophet Muhammamd. After the Arrival of Muhammad(saw) as a Prophet and the event of Islam, there will be no Christains or Jews who will enter Heaven unless they embrace Islam.

Assalam alaykum!
As we know that prophet Muhammad(s.a.w) did not know how to write and read, the quran have been written and collected by the sahaba (r.a).
What I would like to know is whether the quran has been written while the prophet is still alive or after his death, and also which criteria have been used in arrangement of the surat, as we know the first surat was iqra, but the quran start with the surat baqar.
