i was wondering, when you read naffil namaz, can you read it sitting down? also, when you write letters, or meet some1, can you say "salam" for short instead of usalamaliakum?

As Salaamu Alaikoum,

Praise be to Allah.

When making salat be it fard or otherwise, Praying Standing is one of the conditions of salat to be accepted, unless you are unable to pray standing due to illness or something like that, in which case, one may then pray sitting.

The Prophet(saw) said, "pray standing and if you cant do that then pray sitting and if you cant do that then pray lying on your right side..." [Agreed by the four]

In regards to saying salaam when writing, there is nothing wrong with this....
