LITTLE MISS GREENVILLE PAGEANT AN OFFICIAL PRELIMINARY TO LMNC -- No name, 11:07:49 09/13/02 Fri
The Little Miss Greenville NC Pageat will be held October 11th and 12th at Wright Auditorium on the campus of East Carolina University. The pageant is open to all girls between the age of 15 months and 18 years of age. This pageant is a preliminary to Little Miss North Carolina. The Over-All Majestic Winner will have all fees paid to Little Miss North Carolina. Talent is not required for age group titles, but is required to win Over-All Majestic. Usually IP's are turned on instantaneously when the inappropriate comments continue. I feel I gave people fair warning that I intended to turn them on so that allowed them time to contact me if they had identifying posts and wanted them removed. Most of the posts are positive and many people even sign their names so I didn't think it was a real problem. The bashing posts, as you say, use an anonymizer IP anyway so they have no need to desire removal. If you believe that it is fairer, I will wait until the weekend.

I am always amazed at some of the logic (or lack of it) in pageants. A friend just emailed me and laughingly asked how I "know" all the judges at pageants where my daughter competes (and at 20 some pageants in the last year - that is a lot of judges!) She and I joked back and forth about it for a while (since we both thought it was crazy enough to be funny) but then I realized something that maybe a lot of people don't think of.... It is not unusual to know judges at pageants - especially at small prelims! I mean let's face it - pageant parents, fellow directors etc. often judge at pageants and if you compete widely enough, you will run into the same people sooner or later. I (and you)have been to pageants where at least one of the judges "knew" every contestant there. So what is the point of this post? Well, next time you look up and see "little Debbie's" mom judging your daughter, you might think back as to how you treated them the last time your children competed together? Did you congratulate them, treat them respectfully and nicely or did you shun them, bash them, and treat them rudely? If it was a director, did you thank them for the pageant and their hard work or did you run out the door screaming and swearing? Did you respectfully approach the judges and sincerely consider their comments or did you blast them angrily for not choosing your child? Now I want to believe that judges will be impartial and judge the child they see that day but even psychologists know of the "halo effect" - your perceptions of someone are colored by your previous expectations of them. So pageant parents (and children) would probably do well to realize that they and others will sometimes look up at a pageant and realize that they know a judge - and keep that in mind as they compete in all pageants. Heck, I am frequently asked to judge so that just shows you never know who you will see on the other side of the table!!!

I know that numbers are low, there are a lot of titles given and Traci does not prorate so it should be an excellent pageant to try. I think a lot of the usual competition is going to SC Fab Faces.

Beauty dress: This dress has been worn alot but it still looks new....it has won several best dresses....strapless, lavender, w/ rhinestones and bead work that make up flowers....it was my first dress that i ever competed in and it has always been my fav dress but now it is time to let it go $75

Tina Staub, in Columbia does air brush tanning and has people, from out of town come to her for this service. She can be reached at the butterflybeauties.net web site. She has tanned my daughter before and the tan last over a week for one dip. Double dipping, as she calls it, last longer.
The tanning sure makes a difference, especially for those who do not tan naturally. The products are very safe, too.

I cannot remember the winner's name for the 42mth to 4yr. She was from Georgia. The over-all winner was also from that group and she was from Tennessee. I will look in the program book and post those tonight. I do know that LeAnna Jacobs from SC in that group received the following; composite winner, portfolio winner, 4th daycare wear, 4th photogenic and made the top ten. WTG LeAnna!!!!!!!

I make sportswear for my daughter and I generally end up pulling pieces from different patterns together (a top from one, pants from one, etc.) If you want a jumpsuit, I have heard that you can use a leotard pattern (from New Look or someone like that). You can buy white at Mary Jo's in Gastonia, NC. Colors can be purchased at www.glitzonline.com. You can also buy it through Cinderella online and Spandex House (called Jumbo Spandex there) but don't know those links.....

I have been told that they are the name but cannot totally vouch for that. I do have color samples from spandex house and they do not have some of the colors that glitz has. I have ordered many other things from glitz and have always been very pleased.

South Carolina Girls Take Miss Augusta Titles! -- Queen Elizabeth's Dad, 20:54:15 08/10/02 Sat
Just returned from Miss Augusta, GA Scholarship pageant, where South Carolina girls took two titles! Our daughter Elizabeth Towles won photogenic and beauty in Pre-Teen, and Madeline Webster won photogenic and beauty in the Wee Miss division.
We are sure proud of all our South Carolina girls, who are making a name for themselves on stages everywhere!

Thanks for the informative post from the Towles family. We are so proud of all of you.

To the poster inquiring about what the judges were looking for, I agree with Mr. Towles and Grace's description. In the 14-17 age group, glitz won alot, but there were also a few non-glitz contestants who did well.

I noticed that the judges went for contestants w/ dark hair.....mostly all the winners had dark brown or jet black hair....they went for glitzy but in the top 10 their was a mixture of glitz and non glitz but the glitz normaly made the top 5....
here are some descriptions of the winners:
Overall: Lauren Yee...she is a beautiful child....she has brown hair and she is tan...she wins on national levels all the time
Pee Wee: Katelyn Wildes....she is from Florida...I have never heard of her b4 but maybe u have....she is cute as a button...she has bxlxoxnxdxe hair and kinda of fair skin...she was very glitzy
Little Miss: Aubrey Stevenson....Beautiful child just beautiful...brown hair beautiful big brown eyes and she was all glitz
Pre-Teen: Abbi Bell....Beautiful...tan, brown hair, brown eyes, and glitzy
Teen: Victoria Ratliff...Jet black hair, tan, she was very pretty...she had and elegant dress w/ some glitz to it
Miss: Hanna Austin....Sandy bxlxoxnxdxe hair...very beautiful
Sunburst is a pageant that goes for facial beauty so i would recomend that for interview that u pull your childs hair aff of her face in a ponytail or maybe half up half down

Outfits were less important though than action on stage. The 7-10 partywear winner skipped onstage for with balloons and the schoolwear winner wore a plaid skirt and kneehigh socks outfit with pigtails, eyeglasses and a beret. I know she wouldn't be caught dead in that outfit offstage, but she was cute! The winners all projected a lot of personality with eyes and body movements.
Swimsuit winners were all glitz too, and I believe all 5-6 winners had national glitz gowns. By the way, five of the six top finalists in 7-10 were from GA! Best wishes to you all - remember to have fun!

The competition was incredible.... sometimes hard to predict Top 5 because the Interview, Talent and Beauty awards tended to be very spread out. (other than Melissa Lingerfelt, who bumped for Majestic, and Kathryn McCloud in Little Miss, no one really dominated the divisions). I think some of the winners were somewhat of a surprise (not because of how they did in competition) but because it was impossible in many divisions to guess who had the highest scores. One may have done well in Interview but didn't place in Talent, etc. Some girls who have done really well in the past didn't even place this year!

The mini supreme-(if she did not win a beauty or other title) has the option of representing that title or still competing in the system at state and nationals again. Mini supreme title is made up of the combined scores of all door optionals.

Help! Two big pageants coming up. We've always been told that hair down was the thing to do for ages 10 and up, but lately I've noticed that these ages are wearing hair up in the bigger pageants. Is this the thing to do now?

I have been told by several top H/M people that it is not important what other people are doing but what looks best on the individual child. I know several girls who look much better with their hair up and several who look much better with their hair down. I have also seen some "bad decisions" when people have tried to copy a hairstyle that another girl wore only to have it backfire because it doesn't look as good on their child. Also, you usually want to look different so that you stand out. You never want your child to look like the others in the group unless you clearly believe your daughter will win in the contrast. For example, let's say three dark haired girls all wear their hair up. The first thing that often happens is that they will be compared and two will be ruled out (based on facial beauty, modeling, attire, etc. whatever the pageant emphasizes). Therefore you don't want your child to be one of those three unless you absolutely believe the judges will think she is the best. Unfortunately, most people believe that copying what other girls do will help them. You should aim to have your daughter stand out in the best possible way. My daughter varies her hairstyle based on the pageant system, who else is in her group (we try to do the opposite), who is doing her hair (some do better updos and some do it better down), and what seems to look best on her with her face, hair length, dress style etc. Hope this explanation isn't more than you asked for!

I personally worry that hair up in the older groups is riskier as well so I err on the side of hair down unless I know the system. Basically, imo, the more natural systems tend to like hair down (Little Miss, Festival, Cover Miss, Sunburst). I would also tend to go with hair down at prelims or smaller states. The systems that don't care are the big glitz systems, especially nationals. There, you will see all types from very sculptured styles (big this year with a certain group), to "barbies", to poufs with back hair down, to updos. I would say at most of the big nationals, the looks are pretty evenly divided between all of the above in the 10-12. Older girls tended to wear the simpler "hair down" looks.

The Elegant Miss Winners are posted on voy 13833. Actually the back-to-back pageants weren't bad. Each pageant was only about an hour and 15 minutes from our house so it was really a short drive each way and we were home on Saturday night in between with the family. I would definitely rather do that than compete on back-to-back weekends or stay in hotels and I didn't even have to unload the van in between. lol!

Wanted to congratulate all the girls on a great pageant last Sat. It was great to sit out and enjoy watching girls compete and see some friends from previous pageants. Best wishes to everyone this summer on upcoming nationals and state levels. This has been an exciting year in meeting so many people and making new friends.

THIS IS NOT A BASH. THIS IS THE TRUTH THAT NEEDS TO BE TOLD. THIS PAGEANT WAS SO BAD. WE WAS IN THE DIVISION I WITH ONLY A COUPLE IN OUR GROUP. SHE HARDLY HAD ANY CONTESTANTS SO SHE RUSHED THROUGH THE PAGEANT SO BAD THAT NOBODY HAD TIME TO GET THEIR KID READY. EVERYONE IN THE DRESSING ROOMS WAS SO MAD. THE DRESSING ROOM WAS AT THE WHOLE OTHER END OF THE MALL AND YOU WOULD HARDLY GET TO IT BEFORE SHE WAS CALLING ON THE WALKIE TALKIE SAYING SHE NEEDED YOU BACK IN LINE UP! MOMS WERE SWEATING AND RUNNING BACK AND FORTH. IT WAS A MESS. THIS WOMAN DID NOT CARE ABOUT HER CONTESTANTS. SHE ONLY CARED TO GET OUT AS SOON AS SHE COULD WITH THE MONEY.

I disagree... a lot of the girls seemed quite ready for the competition. Just because many do not compete on the glitz circuit does not mean that they are "clueless". Many of these girls had competed at Sunburst State in the past so they knew what to expect. My daughter does a variety of pageant types including national glitz and this weekend she did not do anything differently - she had on the same clothes, hairstyle and makeup that she usually wears. Most of the judging seems to be based on poise, personality/smile, and beauty. The clothes did vary widely but it didn't seem to affect the winners one way or the other as long as the clothes were appropriate for the girl and fit well. The girl who won SC 5-up Overall had a short, trendy hairstyle and an off-the-rack dress but the hair and dress looked perfect on her. She had poise, a fabulous smile and was a real darling. I did think some of the older girls would have placed better with a little different hairstyle - maybe a simple pouf or barbie rather than hanging straight or slicked back in a bun. Most people's faces just look better with something that is not so severe. Most also did not have the best posture or eye contact which helps a whole lot! But that is IMHO. lol!

TROPICAL DREAM STARS USA PRELIM 5/18 -- EMAIL HERE, 12:01:22 05/13/02 Mon
Our "Under The Sea" themed pageant will be held this Saturday in Charlotte, NC. This pageant is open only to SC and NC contestants. We will be awarding one Grand Supreme the supreme package ($295)PAID to Carolina State, a beautiful 6 inch custom crown with pink and lime green stones, theme gift and title sash! THREE Supremes (0-3, 4-9, 10 & Up) will win $150 off the state supreme package, logo crown, theme gift and sash! TWO Supreme Dream Dolls (facial beauty only) will win $150 off the state supreme package, logo crown, theme gift and sash! Plus, we will award 9 Beauty winners $100 off the state supreme package, logo crown, themed gift and sash! EVERY contestant will receive a beautiful pink trophy and gift. Overall Winners receive: Cinderella Girl Round Logo Crown, Blue Satin line in Fur Royalty Robes, 6 Ft Cinderella Girl Trophy, Blue Satin Cinderella Girl Jacket, Blue Satin Banner, Flowers and their beauty fees paid to the Cinderella International held in July.

Hi, this is Tara Nicole's mom. Tara is a state queen for them & at the state level they are looking for full out glitz & nat'l level pics & routines. Sometimes they do prelims that are Sunday attire only - I am NOT sure which type this prelim is, since Tara is there just to help out, I didn't even ask. I would recommend calling the director - or take both types of stuff & ask at the pageant. Good luck.

It was an enjoyable one and recommend it. This was MaKenzie's first time ever to sing and she did a very good job. MaKenzie won Best SW, runner up in talent and 5-6 Title. Melissa won Photogenic, Best SW, Best Interview, Best Talent and the Beauty title. Melissa also won overall best SW, overall Most Beautiful and 1st runner-up to Celebrity. It was hectic doing both girls, but the younger wants to do what the older is doing and we just make it the girl's day out!! Congratulations to all the new Queens and Princesses. We met some wonderful people. Enjoyed getting to see Natalie, last year's celebrity and one of Melissa/MaKenzie's sister queens from C.Foothills. (Both of the girls won there too and that was very exciting- Melissa won Majestic at Foothills and got all of her fees $800 paid for at Little Miss NC!!!!) Natalie is such a beautiful young lady inside and out-hope to see her again soon. Congratulations to our precious Hailey Holbrooks for winning her beauty title and all optionals- she was awesome on stage and so adorable. The last Cinderella Girl preliminary before State is only a few days away. All overall and beauty winners will receive their beauty fees paid to State. Overall Winners receive: Cinderella Girl Logo Tiara, Trophy, Banner, Crown Pillow, Flowers, 14K gold Earrings and THEIR BEAUTY FEES PAID TO STATE. The Beauty winners receive: Cinderella Girl Logo Tiara, Trophy, Banner, Crown Pillow and THEIR BEAUTY FEES PAID TO STATE. Numbers are as follows: 0-18 mths (1), 19-35 mths (2), 3-4 yrs (2), 5-6 yrs (2), 7-9 yrs (2), 10-12 yrs (1) and 13 & Up (0). The numbers are low but the pageant will go forward and there will be 2 overall winners. If you are interested in competing email me your name and age and you can pay Cash at the door.
