It's not the initial situation that seems risky to me. J2 can't make a direct KIA, although there is a very slim chance of a double breaking squads.

This is the concern. When the F5 is being overrun, it seems prudent to at least have a plan to disperse some of the stack in i7. If the F5 building and surrounding area is swarming with guards, they create a formidable force. They don't break easily, and there's only one shot available from the killer stack. If it misses, it can be trouble. As you say, things collapse quickly. Since the guards have such short range, it does make it a little easier to retreat to K7,8 or L7.

Of course my skittishness may be due to one of my recent games. F5 was overrun, the guards broke my leader in i7 along with the squads. Then my leader committed suicide during a rally attempt, and I lost 2 squads to the following LMCs.
