Subject: Who's the madder?

This issue came up on my regular newsgroup a while back, and I've been thinking about it ever since and thought I'd put it to the public for analysis.
One poster was talking about a date she'd had where the guy spent the whole time trying to impress her with how zany, whacky, off-the-wall and all-round loopy he was. Every time he said something really cringe-worthy, he'd just giggle inanely and say 'don't mind me; I'm mad'. And understandibly, the lady in question had a thoroughly bad time and never wants to see him again.

My question is this - I don't doubt that the Evil Bunnies are a very peculiar bunch. In most cases, I think that we have every right to identify ourselves as a bunch of kooks. But it must also be recognised that most of us are very intelligent and articulate, usually with quite a high level of education, and most of us hold down regular jobs. Is this really the work of serious lunatics? Is our special brand of idiocy that wonderful mix of the bizarre and the mundane which losers like the guy mentioned above seem to aspire to? Are we, in short, *really* insane?

I'll leave it up to you.

-L.
