*The Vale was now harsh, and the building lay only as stone foundations. The land was pocked with gravestones of granite, and blood still stained the grass. The Hollow was now called M'rkin or the Land of Haunts.
It was not haunted, for no one came to see any spectral form, and if they had, they would have seen Chrestomanci.
Chrestomanci sat on a gravestone, his dark eyes on one across from him, it read:
Rekai Mounshaduow
"To Live is yet to Die."

His grandomther had said those words just as life left her body, and as Chrestomanci read them he chocked back a sob.*
