If she had known of the words used by the woman dabbed in color she would have scoffed. Where many a woman had wished, neigh pleaded to be Erich’s none had been able to stake such claim. Even she, the most possible at doing such, had never dared to state such frivolous words of romance or love. To love was weakness, a tool the enemy would use against you if ever captured. So the two of them had never loved, they had admired, pleased, and gratified one another…nothing more. It was said they were one of the best teams the motherland had ever seen, even now the young recruits were sure to tell tales of their vast missions. Pity that it was their final many of their superiors would only remember.
Words coated in resentment were not lost on the former blonde turned temporary raven, ice of nearly matching ice lifted to gauge the flicker of emotion these words brought from her comrade and former partner. She would have spoken but already her words of realization had struck a cord. Just as he had felt her change in emotion before outward expression, she too saw the change from icy fortress to a molten inferior of mimicking anger. The knowledge that her words had caused him an emotion few were able came next. Seeing the look in his eyes flare from hunger, to anger, and for the brief second there was pain. ”You are too strong for death comrade, even the darkness knew and sought this power.”
Where pain had rested a strong craving came next. Her subconscious action triggering a surge from the beast within her comrade as the hunger came back tenfold. Though where she had expected him to lunge for her in attack he merely stood snarling and growling, as he seemed to fight an invisible force. She saw nothing and yet her very soul seemed to cool, a hand moving to grasp the amethyst gem clasped to a chain about her next a gift she had stolen from the beast who had attacked her the very night Eric had been captured. Between the comfort of the cold gemstone and the staggered step of Eric she felt the brief spell of cold wash away from her. He is a soul eater?!? The fact surprising though she did not show it, for an uppyr was dangerous enough with his skill set, but a soul eater? Heaven surely had lost some souls thanks to his turning.
When he moved next she was not expecting the rage directed her words of apology. A moment’s breath was taken as she fought to control the urge to strike him, knowing even if he seemed under control now at any second it could change. His words were hissed in anger but behind that she saw the fear, could nearly touch the corporeal dismay that her words had brought him. Surely he had known that their attack that night had meant to turn them both, not only him. ”I would take the curse so you need not walk it alone!” The words cursed out thicken Russian as she stared at him with a mixture of emotion filled eyes. In truth she could not have told you how she felt in that moment, only that she wished to take away his anger at himself and remove the guilt she felt upon seeing him. Sadly neither she could do and as such she felt a twinge of helplessness a feeling she hated far worse than any other.
As quickly as either of their emotions flared the ice returned. To many watching they were sure to have whiplash from the surges sent off from either, but such was their way; Fire and Ice, an insatiable combination, and one so very deadly. ”I would not be so sure comrade, there are many within this city still that would not hesitate to bleed me dry. I must have some of motherland’s luck on me, for none are within the establishment tonight.” That could change though, in a blink of an eye. ”Do not let it win Эрик. Fight as I have never stopped fighting for you.” His name, spoken in Russian, was fierce yet steady. Proof that despite all their years apart she had faith in him and that faith would keep till breath failed them both or the earth crumbled beneath.
He confirmed what she already knew of the woman at the bar, that she was not human and was like he, though perhaps different for the caged beast feeling was not so evident in her eyes. The eyes, they were always what gave away human or beast alike. He could be happy with her, perhaps, a partner that could take his abuse as well as hand it out, much like she and Eric had done while once human. The ideas were not troublesome though she did admit them odd considering the circumstances. Perhaps it was true, that they had been made from one another or what was it they said? Cut from same cloth? A cloth that was obviously destroyed in the fire they soon after created. Thoughts were turned from this as he spoke his words causing icy gaze to flicker from him to the woman at bar and back to him. ”You are wrong.” Words spoken with such authority that she was sure they rose in decibel more than she had wished. She wished to tell him that now more than ever he needed someone by his side someone who could control the storm when it raged yet still be left standing when it was over. Worse of it all was the fact that where she would have gladly stepped up to the position, she knew in their current state that things would be volatile.
Her final words left them both in silence, each surveying the other till at last he broke the pact. Words like ice spoken, sure and knowledgeable and without flinching she gave but a slight cant of her raven covered head to acknowledge his words as truth. She knew he would ask the question. The very one she had already battled within for an answer. He was the monster. She was the hunter. Their paths dictated that she end him or die trying. Instead of answering his question with a simple response as she once would Cammie instead choose a more indirect way of tackling the mountain of complication that was their past, present, and future. ”Aye,” singular word starting her answer. ”I came here to hunt. Our government may have disowned me, but I have not given up the fight.” She allowed the bitterness to flow much like he had before, showing that he was not alone in the cut that was once their motherland. ”But my target is not you comrade. I would as soon die than fall my brother in arms. I am homeless now, she no longer holds my commands.” It was the truth. She would not harm him, even to save herself, a fact that would have seen her shot as traitor if still on the frozen land of Russia. Had she wished it only one would have left the club tonight. It might have been her or him, too close was their ability to know for sure. With his question answered by her she asked again. Needing to know what he sought to do now, what did one do when their goal in life had suddenly been uprooted from sight?

It's a devil's disguise
Angel in black
I don't know if I want you back
You're the cool nights of the desert
And the hot kisses of the sun
Why is it that I don't believe you
When you say I'm the only one
I know I'm the lonely one
It's a devil's disguise
Angel in black
And I recognize the shadows from your past
It's a devil's disguise
Angel in black
