She was lashing out, showing anger towards him, but it wasn’t just him she was really upset with. She was angry at herself for caring, upset at Angelina for dragging her back her, and furious with Freb because that meant everything she’d been trying to tell herself for the past ten years was a lie. She had loved him, she did care, she was upset he’d left…all of it was true and she just didn’t want to believe it, because it meant he was a weakness and she hated having those.
Had it been any other time or place she’d have agreed with his thoughts of their actions doing some good, after all, she had been questioned but never jailed. She’d lost her truck but not her freedom, though her ability to enjoy it had been seriously cramped over the years. They had done what they thought right, and twisted as it was she should’ve been happy they did…but she couldn’t not when the reality of the facts were standing here staring her straight in the face.
She could hear him finally move into motion to follow her his anger tangible as she spun around to face him listening to the words he spoke, harsh and rather demanding something she’d never heard in his voice before. The sound actually caused her to halt her next action, which indeed was to punch him again, the fist falling to her side as she sucked in breath his words had seemed to knock out of her.
Shoulders bunching up towards her ears in tension, before she finally spoke and this time it was a normal outside levels. ”Nothing in that bag matters to me, nothing has ever mattered to me, save my truck…and as much as I’ve fought to ignore it, you.” Surely he could realize the anger wasn’t at him simply leaving but the fact that he’d gotten fully past that wall of protection she had around her heart. She’d actually begun to make a place for him inside her shuttered vesicle and he’d up and left before she could finish the process. The whole thing had left her rather broken and she’d always been the one who did the breaking not the other way around.
”I know,” admittance that she’d hurt him falling from lips as she run a hand through long locks of brown. ”So you can understand why I’d much rather stay out here then go in there and get lashed out at by your boys for what I did. I was willing to try once, I don’t know if I can do it again.” Her skin was thick but years had most likely made their barbs harsher, she was too raw and emotional to keep her reactions minimal. She’d just as soon punch Tumbler as Freb and that would get her nowhere fast.
”Obviously you have plans so I’m getting outta dodge before I screw something up again.” Cell phone taken out of her pocket as she tried to flip through the numbers recently dialed for the cab company. Looking over her shoulder a final time Shania gave the first, brief, smile she’d given since hitting Cascade City Limits. ”You filled out well handsome, I am sure the girls will be all over you.” She’d meant it as a compliment but as the idea sunk in her head that they’d be crawling over her man? She nearly hung up the phone right then. She didn’t have the right to claim him, she’d all but used and abused the young male, turned nearly rugged. The fact his accent had produced thicker had been lost on her either. He was a walking dream and once again Shania realized she was in far deeper than she’d ever meant to be.
The operator for the cab company was talking into her ear as she turned back towards Freb, unhearing of the woman on the other line, fake green eyes almost pleading for him to stop her, but knowing deep down the old Freb never would.
