He'd expected her response to be clouded with the rage he could so plainly see, and it was...just at far higher decibels than he'd anticipated. There weren't many people on the streets, but boy did they ever give these two some clearance when walking past. He shifted, hoping a cop wouldn't get wind of it and show up. That's all he needed.

He nearly cringed when she said that what the crew had done had only made the situation worse. To know that would hurt a lot of the team...it meant that everything had been for nothing.

Well, perhaps not. If it had kept them out of the pen, it had helped at least a little. As far as he knew, Tumbler had been the only one to get busted.

"That's not what we meant to happen." His voice was quiet, but he could say no more. Sorry was not efficient anymore...it simply sounded hollow and fake, and he didn't like it.

His dark eyes widened as told him to speak to Angelina and began walking away, leaving him standing with one of her bags still in hand. Now what was he supposed to do? Set her stuff down and head for the Jeep, and pretend this whole awkward, painful meeting hadn't happened? Or was he supposed to go after her? Chances are if he did, he'd be subject to another of her jabs, which he wasn't fond of...the girl could put some power behind a punch.

Seconds later, it seemed like his feet had done the decision making...and in a few long strides, he was nearly caught up behind her. "Fine, Shania.. Go on and walk on out if that's what you have to do. But take your damned bag and talk to Angelina yourself." Whoa. Where had that come from? He hadn't known what he'd say when he caught up to her, but hadn't expected the result. "I screwed up and I was an asshole for doing what I did. I didn't think it'd turn out that way, but it's no excuse." He set the bag down in front of her, dark eyes leveling with hers. "But at the end of the day, Shania, remember that I wasn't the only one who'd made mistakes with us. You weren't a peach either." She'd cut him deep, had given him his first tastes of what an adult relationship could be like,. And had left the first scar in his heart.
