She didn't learn English until she was an adult (she's from Slovakia) and then married a total sci-fi geek who watches shows with obscure references. She used to nanny rich Manhattan brats when she first got here and was used to the word "poop" as meaning ...you know. Later my dad was talking to her and said, "I'm pooped", meaning he was tired but my wife was thinking my dad crapped his pants for a few minutes. I nearly crapped my pants laughing!

When we're alone, she asks about what she doesn't get be they references or sayings or a famous person she's not familiar with. And holiday customs which I have trouble with...Europeans have more set in stone ways than we do. being here for 10 years now, she knows the commercials and products well. She takes in XF well, Buffy has a few too many Gen X refs and MST3K has refs even don't get occassioanlly.
