Author: CW, got the messages loud and clear.
Subject: I have mixed feelings about this one
In reply to: Rabid, commenting on the Brady Bunch Eppy 's message, "Okay...is anybody not getting the message?" on 20:19:22 05/12/02 Sun

There were actually several messages in this episode. The obvious one is the "Don't get too wrapped up in a television program." Fine--explain that to all the folks who still watch reruns of their favorite shows and support the sponsors who also still support the shows--Brady Bunch, SNL, Star Trek just to name a few. I wish they would have had this episode much earlier--it would have taken the sting off just a little.

Another message is that we all are supposed to have a life outside of our work or quests--whatever they may be. It's the "There's no place like home" thing. I liked the look on Scully's face at the end just before Dogget took Reyes hand. Somehow I got the message that she was thinking of William and of Mulder by that look. Hopefully she will be going to reclaim her son! Just a feeling I got at that point.

The whole notion of finding satisfaction from the small things in life and the relationships we have with those we meet as well as those in our families was another message. The bit with Oliver and the psychologist having a substitute father-son relationship made me think of that.

As for being funny--I thought that it was hilarious when the second victim ended up half-buried in the lawn. I never cared for that actor's character on Married with Children. That was something I would have loved to see on that show as well!

So did I like the episode--it was ok but I would have rather had a few more answers about Mulder's past--like we got last time regarding Doggett. Let's hope this is as sappy as it gets. And as for the previews--from what I saw, there may be some way to leave us hanging and waiting for the next movie. I HOPE that isn't the case as the show is done--tie up the loose ends and give us answers. I will definitely look forward to XFiles movies and be first in line to see them!
