A weekend I'll never forget. Six of us travelled in two cars. While driving Thursday night though some small town w/the word "Falls" in the name (can't remember right now but it will come to me), the local police stopped one of us for speeding, so us in the other car stopped. A speeding ticket was issued and we were told we could go to the station and pay the fine right away or appeal and have to come back..a no brainer. We proceeded back to the station where we saw a coupld of concertgoers sitting on the floor w/cuffs. The police told us if we had any marijuana to get rid of it now or we'd be joining those two and never make it to the concert. Of course we told them we didn't have anything on us (YAH RIGHT!), paid the fine and continued on the road. They tried to scare us and tell us they would be searching cars further up the road, but the girls jocked the weed. We got to the racetrack on Friday and were let right in and since so many people were there, they opened the gates to the concert area early. 3 of us decided to go in and throw down our blankets, etc and the other 3 said they'd see us in there tomorrow....we never saw them again till we got home. I remember being handed a jug of spring water as we entered..a great idea. We got to listen to the "sound check concert" and grilled food, got high, had a great time. When I fell asleep, there were still walkway paths open, but when I woke up the next day, I sat up and looked around to see nothing but masses of people...it was an awesome experience. Since we went in early the day before we were close to the stage. The music was great!! When the rains came I watched as many people just got into their sleeping bags and zipped up over their heads, thinking that the rain would stop quickly...no such luck. Remembering the rain at Woodstock, we had brought a huge tarp of clear plastic. We had laid that on the ground w/our sleeping bags the night before...we rolled up our bags, gathered our things close, sat on our sleeping bags, brought the plastic up over our laps, brought the rest of the plastic up over our backs and head, and mickey moused an "awning"...We were dry as a bone and enjoyed the concert till the end!!! My brother was there and I never ran into him either. On Monday as people had left, there were tons of coolers, sleeping bags that were so heavy you couldn't even lift them because they were drenched, food, trash, and other things all left behind. We headed back to where we had left the car-- our friends had already left. As we headed home we were hit by another car, but not too bad. The sights and sounds of that weekend are burned into my memory..the one I remember the best is the amphibious duck vehicle, this huge tank that can drive on land and go into the water, complete with a license plate on it, was driven to the concert up the highway and thru the small towns. It was a sight to see. Loved the concert and I still have the t -shirt w/the skull/mushrooms on it (although I can't fit into it anymore!)....those were the days!!!
