 Delighted to come across this forum. Was also on the 1972 Mediterranean cruise with pupils from schools in Staffordshire. Quite a few of us were at Hayley Park. I still often talk about seeing Stromboli spewing out red hot lava as we sailed past late in the evening on our way along the Italian coast en route from Naples to Valetta in Malta. Amazing!

Must mention that our school won the quiz competition near the end of the cruise. Kevin Ball and I were in the team, and possibly Colin Little and Brian Starbuck. Although thrilled to win, I confess I was most disappointed with the prize....a rather dull, old-fashioned book about ships. Sorry to say I didn’t keep it, but I still have many happy memories of my first cruise experience.

Oh, and I agree - the food was dreadful. Fish and chips with uncooked batter? Yuck!
