 I was in the engine room operating the steam valves to the turbines when we ran aground in Venice. I wondered why the steam pressure was going ape when the Chief Engineer realised what had happened and guided us accordingly.
Apparently, the story was that the channel leading into and out of Venice hadn't been dredged by the Italian authorities!
I can remember us circumnavigating Stromboli with molten rock and steam poring out of the top - it really was exciting.
Good memories, eh.
