We are just over a week away from the AGM, so I thought it might be useful to start a thread with questions. I suppose the main areas that spring to mind are;

Finances
Is the club solvent?
Does the club know what income it will have next season?
What is the impact of the London Welsh administration?
Playing
Are there any further signings to be announced?
What are the 1st XV objectives?
Gloucester DR agreement - final year
Planning/progress towards FT professionalism
Infrastructure
Ground development plans/progress
Financing the infrastructure development

I'm sure others have many things to add.

Come on Mose!

What is the draw of the Premiership?

Anonymity, car parking & fees, traffic, a long walk to the ground, cheering on a bunch of foreigners only interested in the pay-packet, cramped seats, extortionate prices for beer and food (and the queues that go with them), bigger debts...And someone suggests that we want to do this by merging with Bees - I'm afraid you can keep it!

Of course every club needs something to aspire to, but for me this is the family friendly club atmosphere we already do so well with - how many prem clubs have kids playing and making new friends around the perimeter of the pitch as the dads watch the serious stuff? A few permanent facilities would go a long way to assist but I for one would be happy to see the club at any level as long as these values and our identity are maintained.

Discuss!

I am not sure that The British & Irish Cup has the backing of everybody, and may just turn into nothing games, played just to make up the lost revenue from playing fewer league games ! I also feel that going to 12 teams and play-offs is a bad move, again just to give extra matches, how will we feel if we have a tough season finish 9th in the league, pick up some vital injuries or lose The DR players to Glos duty and end up being relegated threw the playoffs by The Bees or Cov !

I have been watching with interest, other clubs player additions. I just wonder, have we strengthened enough, and can we compete with, lets say Coventry, I think we need to match them if we hope to finish in The Top 8.
I know we have retainded our forwards, along with the addition of Chevvy Pennycook, but will they be able to hit the groung running, when we have such a tough start, Exeter, Cornish Pirates, Nottingham then Doncaster. If you look at The Fixture list it looks a very tough season. I just wonder what others think and is a Top 8 finish to optimistic ?

Moseley Rugby v Moseley Ashfield CC
Sunday 7th June - OFF

The cricket on Sunday has been cancelled.
This is due to the forecast and agreed by the two captains. An early decision has been made since catering would need to be ordered etc and the chances of playing are v. low (based on the forecast).

Everyone is disappointed - but this is the most sensible solution to avoid unneccessary cost given the low likelihood of a game being possible

Both teams are determined to play a game and there will be a 20/20 match some time before the season (date etc tbc). It is likely to be some time in July - information will be posted on the website & message board...........no doubt one side will wish to wear orange kit for the match given the result a few minutes ago of Netherlands v England!

Looking at a few previous posts we seem to have a lot less players coming in this year than we have leaving. This worries me as i feel the managment a relying heavily on the glows academy DR players to make up our squad. Dont get me wrong the signings we have made seem to be quality, but we still need depth for 7s and injuries. This is my look on the squad where cover is needed:

Sigley, Caves, Williams, Buxton: (another hooker and prop needed)
Muldowney, Stott (need another)

Back row seems fine.

Congrats to Moseley who have just secured their place in the "Championship" next season by beating Manchester 50-21.

Great news for our academy lads who can continue to develop at this level. Moseley showed last Saturday in the EDF final that they know what a "Team" is and how to sep up on a big stage, something Gloucester is seriously lacking IMO, so it can only be good for our youngsters coming through. Lets hope that team spirit and winning mentality rubs off on the 1st team

We have been advised that the numbers attributed to the Welsh teams in the B&I Cup related not to their final positions in the League but to their numbers in a draw which has now taken place. As a consequence we will now play away against Llanelli and Aberavon (not Cardiff). The home games against Ulster, Bedford and London Welsh area are as originally shown.

Thinking of becoming a member this season and giving away the tickets I dont use. Can someone confirm whether you have to have the season ticket book with you when you enter the ground or can I simply remove vouchers and post them to friends? Thinking it is a bit of an inconvenience to post the whole book back and forth. From reading last years membership description it implies the tickets are fully transferable unless I have the wrong end of the stick.

“Training, Learning, Earning!”
Club and College join up to deliver Sports Foundation Degree

Moseley Rugby Club and Solihull College have joined forces to offer a Sports Foundation Degree course that will help aspiring rugby players to kick-start their sporting and academic careers.

The two-year course is ideal for prospective students who wish to pursue a career in the sports sector. It is also an excellent option for those who are already in employment as it is modular and can be fitted around work commitments.

The course combines a highly valued Foundation Degree qualification with top quality coaching that enhances rugby skills, as well as employment, and subsequent educational prospects.

It will appeal especially to senior rugby players preparing for the future, young up-and-coming rugby players, and those focussed on a career in elite and/or community coaching.

This is being done following consultation with John Beale. We need to have feed back as to whether this is worth doing. While there are sponsorship opportunities they obviously have certain minimum sums attached which can be beyond pocket of many supporters. We have both had an idea on how money can be raised to help finance new and quality player(s)(depending on amount raised) for next season.
A medium will be created(eg Trust or company)having a bank account into which individuals or small businesses can donate any sum they like.Payment can be by cash, cheque or standing order monthly or a one off payment. No sum too small or too large!
ALL monies raised will go to paying new player(s) only and John and I will make sure this happens by taking a written confirmation from Club management.Payments can be made by supporters anywhere in the world and give a chance for people to do a little bit extra for their club.
There are ,for example, over 2000 people subscribing to Moseley Matters. If all gave £5 we would raise an extra £10000 just to give an example. As a start to his Presidency John would like to know how well this idea is received and he and I will do the work if it appears a 'goer'.The Championship is a tough league and we need players of the right calibre to have a competitive squad but they cost money. Please provide feedback both on this Board and direct to club by email copying me in at adrian.bressington@awdrys.co.uk asap as to your views.
You will all know John and, apart from obvious connection with Moseley, I am a solicitor and so we will do this right or not at all.

The Rugby Times states that Keys has signed "a direct replacement for Bristo-bound Jack Adams" and Mensah-Coker is "set to follow suit". Pennycook is also mentioned "with only one or two new faces still to be unveiled."

Moseley are "thought to be 80% down the line in terms of the make-up of their squad for next season". Apart from Bignell, Mose "have managed to retain all the players they wanted to keep." (slightly ambiguous?)

The last bit is perhaps the most encouraging.

"No.8 James Rodwell ... has decided to stay put, as has lock Aly Muldowney".

This, if confirmed, is tremendous news for the club.

Come on Mose!
