Brave performance, but Bris have too much for us right now. We were unable to get much going in attack and never really threatened their line. Still did very well to keep them to just one try. Commentators suggested that we weren't creating much, though the pens we got were as a result of applying pressure and forcing mistakes. Bristol not nearly as dominant as they would have hoped.

Subject: Better Advertising

Moseley RFU needs better advertising.
We need to raise the income of the club and the way to do this is to improve the turnout at home games.
The only way to do the this is to raise the Club's profile. We should be increasing our advertising for each home match with the aim to try and land some new (and returning) supporters.
At present there is an offer to NUS card holders to come to October's home matches for free. I live in Selly Park and the only poster I have seen of this is the one my Mrs took out of my front window telling me 'it looks tatty'.
In the past 4 years I have seen only 2 posters to advertise the club. One was an annual fixture list 4 years ago in Tiverton baths and the other was last week in a dingy lobby in a shop in Moseley.
For gods sake we are in the Championship, last year we beat Leeds in the EDF Trophy Final, we are Birmingham's premier Rugby Club and I know of people living on the Alcester Road opposite Wheelers Lane (this is just up the road from the ground in case you didn't know) didn't even know where the ground was, let alone when the next home game was.
All we hear or see of the club is the brief match report on the back pages of some local paper. This is great free advertising but the final words of everyone of these write ups should say "The next home game at Billseley is .....".
We also need to be advertising the next game on lamp posts or a billboard immediately around the ground, to capture the eye of the numerous feckas driving to work every day.
Building the new stands is a great investment for the future of the club but the club really needs to raise it's game off of the pitch if it ever wants to fill this stand and succeed in this new professional era.

Gawd I sound like a right grumpy git don't I

I went to the game last night and the discussion on our mini bus on the way back was suggestions for the boxing day fixture against Cov and what we can do for half time entertainment. I do agree that there should be a special half time fixture to go ahead for this game but it shouldnt just be this one ! I have been to many of the away games and the one thing that we at moseley fall back on is at half time there is nothing going on !! I was thinking about kick the cross bar at half time with a prize ?, music being played before the game, when the lads come running onto the pitch etc ?

I am throwing a suggestion in here to start up a moseley supporters club, where a payment of £5.00 per month is paid into the supporters club by all members and then this money can go towards away coaches (after last nights problem i think this would be a good idea). And the supporters club can then give suggestions to the managers about things that would make moseley stand out ! unforutnately we seem to be stuck in a rut and dont seem to be changing anything, lets give the lads something to be proud of. We need to make moseley a club where people want to go especially with the planning application going in for the new stand etc.

Please can i ask you all to really think about this and if you are interested in joining the supporters club please respond to this message and if we get enough interest maybe we can go ahead with this.

George evidently left us without a great deal of fuss, and has now washed up at Bridgwater and Albion.

From VFRRider on the rolling-maul message board:

BRIDGWATER have strengthened their squad by signing George Davis an experienced prop forward, who will make his debut at Bath Road in the home game against Dings Crusaders on Saturday (October 17th) afternoon, kick off 3pm

I'm not sure that George will make much of a difference here! I'd be happy to be proved wrong.....

Good luck George.

Subject: Supporters Coach to Bristol - Friday 16th October 2009

Date Posted: "Tue, Oct 06 2009, 23:32:57 GMT"

Hello

Interest is building in the Supporters Coach to Bristol on Friday 16th October but more supporters are needed to make the running of the coach viable.

The coach can only run if we carry 24 supporters at a cost of £20.00 each. However if 32 or more supporters travel then the cost comes down to £15.00 each with any refunds due paid out on the coach.

The proposed timings are to leave Billesley Common between 4:00pm and 4:30pm, and depart from the Memorial Stadium at 10:00pm sharp.

If you have made a reservation for the Supporters Coach to Bristol please make your payment this coming Saturday, 10th October, at the home match against Plymouth Albion. If you have made a reservation but are unable to attend the match please contact Moseley Supporters by e-mail or mobile phone, or contact the Club Office during office hours.

All money must be paid in advance – no “pay on the day” allowed. Payment can be made in either cash or by cheque made payable to MOSELEY RFC. Sorry but card payments cannot be taken.

Best wishes to you all

Moseley Oak 2nd XV
Moseley Oak 2 v Harborne at Billesley, 3.00pm ko, Sat 24th Oct
2 players required!

A change of fixture from that published in MM. Oak are confirmed at HOME v Harborne.

After a great effort to get a 2nd XV over the last couple of weeks (thanks for everyone's help) Ben was there for tomorrow (in fact had 18 players!) but with a couple of drop outs and some injuries now needs 2 more players!!!!

Everyone who played in the last couple of matches both enjoyed it and the new players got a great welcome.

Can anyone help him (Ben copied)? Please forward this anyone (even remotely) interested!

The momentum to get a regular side out is on the way............... this may suit a player returning to the game, a recent Colt, someone in Brum as a student, a 'veteran' etc etc.

I'm sure they'll receive a big welcome - please contact Ben if you know someone - he can make the phone call and persuade them!! Please forward to anyone who may know anyone etc etc

Surveyors Cup at Billesley – today 4pm ko

This afternoon (Wed 14th Oct, 4pm Kick off) at Billesley is the annual Birmingham v Yorkshire Surveyors match. Last season this was played at Headingley with a victory for Yorkshire.

All the large property construction and associated companies will have representatives playing and this should be a good event.

Spectators encouraged – free entry. Bar & Catering open. Plenty of interesting names you’ll recognise!

I've never watched women's rugby before, but I was well impressed by what I saw on Sunday afternoon.

Seemed to me that our team were worthy winners - they knew exactly what they were doing, though they had some difficulty doing it. Had there not been quite so many poor passes and knock-ons amongst the backs they'd have slaughtered the opposition. More practice in basic handling in that department needed IMHO.

It seemed to me that our forwards were well on top in the loose and in the scrum, and the tackling was super.

Two further minor critcisms though. A goal kick slap in front of the posts shouldn't have been able to be charged down. That would have cost us the match had another super try not been scored in the last minute. Also, the Cambridge full back was brilliant but no-body seemed to notice - it would be a good idea not let her near the ball or to kick it to her if / when we play the return match!

It seems to me a shame that more supporters didn't turn up to encourage our team and to watch a very entertaining match.

For all of those unable to make it on the supporters coach down to Bristol, I notice that BBC Bristol are providing coverage of the game starting at 19.45. Perhaps someone cleverer than me can come up with the online link.

Twickenham excepted, how come is it that Radio WM can't cover our games? Is it down to Birmingham's seemingly endless obsession with the round ball game or some other reason?

Yesterday, although firstly disappointed when Andy had to go of injured I think Mose played better with Garteth at No 9.

His defence, kicking and organisation of the forwards was much superior and he even took a tap and go pen!

I'm pretty happy with both IMHO two decent SH's but i would like to have Gareth as the starting player.

Anyone agree / disagree?
