As much as im happy we won last night and the thought of escaping seems more realistic, it doesn't over shadow in my opinion a poor season. there will probably be haters on here disagreeing but i think a new coach is in order. somebody with no other commitments and fresh tactics. yes smith got us into nat1(now championship) and won us the EDF cup but i think its time for somebody new.

just my thoughts :)

Hi kids. I was at the game on friday night and what a transformation one week can make. To be fair, I did take great comfort from a report I read which suggested that the Esher coach, Schmit was a little cocky after Esher disposed of Plymouth the week before. It read ... now bring on Moseley ... . Well, we did bring on Moseley and, more to the point, we brought on a want to win Moseley. And to boot we arranged for absolutely ideal playing conditions. Moseley were absolutely superb in every department - they were in control throughout the entire game. Esher were not a bad team overnight - to coin a phrase - and contributed to giving Moseley plenty to think about. They had some good possession and created some excellent pressure, particularly in the three-quarters and down the left wing.

They performed a number of set moves which - I would suspect - normaly serve them well but resolute Mosley defence snuffed most of them out. I felt that the thrust of Eshers' three-quarter moves appeared to revolve around the two centers and the left wing. I recall in the first game of the season the Esher centers' ran through the Moseley defence at will, but not this time.

For Moseley, Chevy had a towering game and around that performance the entire team gelled. Support was always to hand and it rubbed of through the entire team - so much in fact that there was no need to bring on subs in the usual 'last hope' options. And I thought that de la harpe had a very good game. His passing was crisp, accurate - just a little delayed here and there - but overall very much improved. Well done. And the rest of the team? They ALL payed their part to a man. They played as a TEAM a 15 man TEAM and when they play as a team they can be very imposing. They defended super throughout, they got up off the ground and rejoined the action much quicker than normal and it showed, it realy showed. They closed Esher down and generated so much pressure that it was Esher who made most of the mistakes, not Moseley.

However, without the shaddow of the doubt Esher will do their homework for next week so Moseley, in turn must not get cocky, they must keep their focus and perspective. Moseleys' management of the game on friday was first class - take the penalty points on offer early in the game, control the game and then expand to gain maximum advantage which they did. Well done Moseley. I can't get to Esher on saturday because I am in Devon on holiday but if someone can text the score as it develops I would be most pleased. Come on Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose.

7.31pm dropped kick off & penalty against, first scrum 0.3

from then on superb. don't you love these Friday night games!

Physicality all over magnificent. Thought 6 pons 7 maltmen 8 chevvy 9 De La harpe all really fantastic - but everyone played their part.

Before game I was not at all optimistic, but never gave Esher a sniff, apart from 10 mins after half time when down to 14.

The two late tries for the bonus point, topped the night.

very well done all.

There was some previous discussion about Friday night games and some supporters being unable to attend etc. If anyone is interested, I will attempt to 'replay' the COMPLETE match on Saturday, starting at 3pm. Note this is not a 'highlights' package with slo-mo and captions etc, just a straightforward replay of what is on the camera (coughs and camera shakes!!) It will last as long as the original game. You can't download it, or watch it later.

I don't guarantee it will work, I don't guarantee the quality. But it's free.

Open this link in your browser tomorrow at 3pm if you want to watch.

Sorry to say i was right but way back in September i posted on here how worried i was by the lack of togethorness in this squad . Pre season i watched them be out muscled , out battled by Bournville , the training sessions were practically held in silence , Maggs was screaming at them to communicate with each other . A few weeks ago i saw a squad player who coaches a Gtr Bham juniour side , sub a lad , and tell him he was being too passionate about the game !!!!! . This squad will not save us and definately have not got the committment to get us out of Nat 1 , lets get Mitchell and Delport in from Stour , what they have done there with no big signings is superb .

This piece in the Bristol papers is suggesting that the DR deal between us and Gloucester could be comming to an end.

http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/sport/Bristol-Rugby-planning-player-link-Gloucester/article-3368823-detail/article.html

Like others on here I don't understand why we haven't used the DR players more regularly this season, has the quality of those on offer not been good enough? Ryan Mills is going to be Gloucester's 3rd choice 10 next season so he must be good enough, but when have we ever seen him play?

On Sunday Charlie, Jordi and Rupert Harden all started in Gloucester's LV= cup win, Shaun Knight, Yann Thomas and Trinder were on the bench and Jonny May just missed out as 24th man, and have all learnt their trade via Moseley and added a great deal to our team. Gloucester have serious quality in their youngsters comming through why are we not using them like we used too? And now it looks like we're going to loose them!

Does this possible end to the DR agreement signal a change in head coach next season, with Don gone, Smithy is the only one left with a relationship with Gloucester, if he were to leave who would maintain that link?

I too share the agony of defeat from Saturday, but am hopeful (perhaps blindly) that we will see a performance from the team on Friday night that may just be the catalyst to survival for another year. I remember a similarly hollow feeling when Tristan Roberts missed a last minute penalty to win the game against Rotherham this time last year, following the previous week’s dire performance at SXR. Does anyone else see the similarities?

Whilst we can, and must hope for another season’s survival in The Championship, I cannot help but think that the club are in a dangerous and vicious cycle here. Whilst the top eight clubs in the division are now secure in their status, and can begin planning and offering contracts to the best players in this division and beyond, we are stuck with our future unknown for the next month at least! How are we ever going to be able to improve the squad, and try to push ourselves outside of the dreaded Pool C, when we cannot even compete in the ‘transfer market’ until the ‘better’ teams in the division have already been planning and recruiting for more than 6 weeks? I know funds and resources are limited and that we have recruited a decent squad this year, but they have largely failed to function or perform – but what were we to expect? How do we break this cycle?

But anyway, onwards and upwards for Friday’s game against Esher, and the return of some hope!

P.S. Does anyone know where Chris Bishay has disappeared to? Last played against Plymouth, and not seen since. Looked far and away our most dangerous finisher when I did see him play – has he been released, as Ian Smith stated last week that he had a full and fit squad to pick from and he didn’t even make the squad?

Firstly congratulations to Bees. I thought they just deserved to win and they always looked more threatening in attack than us.

I think Phil got it right when he talked about us not operating as a team and I think the problem stems from us never having a settled side all season. Whether due to injuries or selection issues we have rarely fielded the same team and this cannot help to gel the players Some time ago a poster on this board listed the various permutations and positional changes that have taken place and for me the failure to decide upon, and, play, 2 reasonably settled units of forwards and backs has been one of the real negatives this season.

While I'm on negatives I cannot help but feel that playing players out of position does not help either. With the best will in the world I do not believe Ollie Thomas is a left winger and whilst I understand the rationale for giving him a place because of his goal kicking I cannot help but feel that his skills there are not enough to outweigh attacking and defensive frailties in that position. Chevvy Pennycook has had an outstanding season ( I have not decided yet whether to vote for him, Anthony Carter or Michael Maltman as player of the season)but is he really a number 8? I would have loved to have seen him and Maltman as our regular 6 and 7.

Similarly we have messed about with the 10, 12 and 13 positions all season and I think our lack of attacking flair and ability to apply the killer punch can partly be attributed to not having a settled unit in these positions.

A final negative is the constant rumblings about 'the club'. Whether it is rumblings about behind the scenes, the coaches or the players this has been a real negative all season and needs to be addressed whether we stay up or go down.

Some positives. Some players have been outstanding this and I must say a word for De La Harpe who no one seems to have mentioned yet. He had a great game yesterday. As well as his 2 trys (the first one even got me out of my seat)I thought his distribution from hand and his tactical kicking was excellent. I cannot help but feel that him at 9 and Thomas at 10 may just have given us a bit more attacking variety if we had tried them out more regularly.

Pennycook and Maltman were excellent also. I said earlier tis season that I think Maltman is destined for greater things (not just because he is a fellow Scot) and I thought he was excellent yesterday both in attack and defence. Carter had his usual solid game and I think that Bressington recovered really well from his first half mistake to deliver the sort of performance we know he can.

Everyone seems full of gloom and doom but anyone who read Brian Dick's excellent article about the playoffs will know that although this game was important (as they all are) the destiny of the relegation spot did not hinge on it. The permutations are endless and I still believe we can avoid the drop.

See you all next Friday.

I read in the Rugby World today that Esher seemed a little cocky with their good win over Plymouth - so much in fact that Scmitt, their coach is quoted as say "Bring on Moseley". Well lads. If that, on top of your Bees defeat is nothing less than a "red rag to a bull" then what is? I would love to go down to support you, but at the moment I cannot. Therefore, to accompany my advanced appologies here is a come on Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose.

Look relegation to Nat 1 is going to be a positive thing, let me explain. 1.No poxy B & Q cup .2.Boxing day derbies v Cov .3.A local derby v Stourbridge. 4.More league games and being competitive. 5.No Friday night games. 6.Admission and season tickets prices wont increase if we are playing in a lower division. 7.No relegation Pool c playoff because that is where we will be again next year if we stay up. So chin up there is plenty to look forward to.

I am sad, very sad. Moseley are rooted at the bottom of the "mini league" having lost to the 'top team' away from home and the 'bottom team' at home. But was has compounded my sorry is that the 'second team' Esher, the new boys, have now beaten the 'top team' at home after they beat the previous 'bottom team' away. So where does that leave Moseley. Quite simply, in the fertiliser. So what is the answer. Now there is a conundrum.

What if we? What if WE stop giving stupid penalties away? What if WE stop kicking the ball away willy nilly? What if WE make all our first up tackles count? What if WE support the ball carrier EVERY TIME the gain line is crossed? What if WE calm down and get the basics right? What if WE play as a team? What if WE change "the plan" if "the plan" isn't working? What if WE have more pride in the Moseley shirt? What if WE play for each other? What can WE do. But who or what is WE.

Well, all but the last WE is the team of players on the pitch. The last WE is US the supporters. We should support all we can, whenever we can and for all our worth. Come on Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose

Most dissapointed with the result today. Bees deserved to win without the shaddow of the doubt. Whenever their backs had the ball they ran rings round the Moseley defence - what defence - and looked like they could score at will. Simon Hunt, as expected was the talisman in the Bees threequarters. One could sense the Bees players looking out for him and playing to his strengths which are considerable. Moseley didn't deserve to snatch a win at the end, which they didn't - and it would have been a travesty of justice to a Bees team which played for each other and with each other had they done so. As I have said on occasion Moseley have by far more quality players than many other teams - but they are individuals - they have difficulty playing as a team and rugby is a team game. My heary will always be Moseley but my head tells me something so different week in week out. It is almost too late to do anything now. It is no use Smithy saying we must learn from our mistakes we do not have the time. Sadly I rather suspect I shall be collecting my £500 win WHEN MOseley are relegated in thtee weeks time - if not before.

I do belive I was at that Pilkington Cup game in 1988? We won 4-3 at a very soggy Reddings. Think we lost to Saints in the next game.

Another dissapointment and another £50.00 down the pan. Moseley had 75% of the possesion and 75% of the territory and failed to win - again. The pitch and playing conditions were perfect but Moseley, for some unknown reason continue to make more effort to lose the game rather than to win it. And the penalty count against us was another factor - yet again. And the inability to convert try line forward pressure into tries was another factor - yet again. And the first up tackle was another factor - yet again. The dropped ball and knock on factor was not too bad last night. And Moselet should have had a penalty try for a deliberate knock on when attacking down the slope the second half, But the first try that plymouth got was the gift of the night. Long throw on our 25 to the back of the line collected by plymouth No 9, a little shimmy, not a finger on him and he was under the posts. Moseley have a team packed with good, very good players yet for some obscure reason they nahve great difficulty consistently playing as a team. More often than not they appear to be individuals doing their own thing. Patently obvious is the lack of support when someone makes a break. Plymouth did it all night - a player made a break and immediately he had options iether side of him. Moseley, by contrast, didn't were frequently isolated and had to go to ground. And plymouth stole a least 3 balls in the tackle - and not only stole them but went into an immediate and expansive attack mode. I have only seen Moseley play as a "team" once in the whole season and that was the home game against Bees. Where do Moseley go from here - I do not know but as of last night they stand a better chance of going than of staying up.

The Plymouth message board (http://www.rugbynetwork.net/boards/read/s503.htm?961,12291054) has Luke Pearce as the ref for this evenings game.

Do we receive a three penalty-try advantage to begin with?

Come on Mose

Phil HALL/Pam HALL/CYNIC/GNASHER/Neil2468 (I presume by the numbers he is good enough to cover four positions!)Mike GIGGLER/ West Country MOSE/JEL (seems to pop up at the strangest times!)/ Devon ARMITAGE (well Brian Dick thinks he's coming!) RICH (in spirit at least!)/Mose MAN/ ROGER (with love).

Brian Dick picks Devon Armitage as his key player for the Championship play-offs in this week's Rugby Round Up (fast forward to about 4 mins to avoid the Worcester interview with Andy Goode).

In the words of Ray Gravell: You've got to get your first tackle in early, even if its late!

With hard work and the quality in our squad there's no reason why we can't finish top of the group. We are Moseley.
