It's really not like me to post criticism on this board but this afternoon's display was one of the worst I can remember in recent years.
- No support for the ball carrier
- No commitment at the break down leading to painfully slow ball
- Backs not moving off the ball to create momentum and space
- Missed tackles that mini or juniors could have made
- poor handling that cost ball and field position
etc, etc etc.
I also hesitate to name names but the club made some "big" signings this summer and I was disappointed with the contributions of almost all of them this afternoon.
(Andy Wiliams being the exception who showed his class and remained effective and unruffled while rubbish was happening all around him.)

I made a 120 mile round trip to watch this as i do very time I cam make a home game. Do I feel minded to make the effort again? I'll let you work it out

Is it possible for the comm's team to see if they could get the coaches to answers some of the questions & comments made on here. Several people have asked for some feedback but we never normally get any.
Is this possible?
I believe it would ease alot of peoples worries if the coaches were to make a statement on here.

A statistical look at Moseley’s fortunes over the last 12 months tells quite an interesting story:

Opponent Points (Home) Points (Away)

London Welsh 1 1
Coventry 5 0
Exeter 5 0
Rotherham 5 0
Nottingham 1 0
Plymouth 5 0
Cornish Pirates 0 1
Doncaster 1 0
Bedford 1 1

Birmingham N/A N/A
Bristol N/A N/A
Moseley N/A N/A

Leeds 2 0

Moseley played 9 other teams in the newly formed Championship in the 2008/09 season. Birmingham and Solihull were promoted from National Division 2, Bristol relegated from the Premiership. Moseley obviously cannot score points for and against themselves. Leeds were promoted however our performance against them is included here.

Moseley scored a total of 27 points against 9 Championship sides last season. Interestingly, and in contrast to the 2007/08 season, 8 times more points were secured at home as opposed to away against the top teams in National League 1.

This season Moseley have conceded the most points of any Championship team while scoring more points than 6 other teams in the Championship.

The Championship is going to be a real struggle for Moseley this season. Our performance against the top teams in the Division was quite promising last year, especially when we consider lost points in close games against Nottingham, Cornish Pirates, Doncaster and Bedford, however not good enough. The teams in this Division have strengthened considerably, and arguably our recruitment cannot match those of many others.

As stated at the AGM our reliance on the quality of Gloucester is going to play a huge role in our success this season. I would hope that without A League games between now and the Coventry game in October that we will see more of the likes of Charlie Simpson-Daniel, Jonny May et al. With the injury to Adam Caves I imagine we are going to need the assistance of Gloucester in finding a replacement hooker too.

The results and performances in the first 2 games of the season have been poor. I would hope however that once we see a return to fitness of Andy Reay, Neil Mason and James Rodwell we can aspire to greater things. The squad has potential and depth, but not at the moment. I said after the Exeter game that we were short of pre-season action and I feel we have been found lacking because of it. Let’s all hope we can learn our lessons and come back stronger this weekend.

We haven’t become a bad team overnight, so let’s look forward to a brighter future…

I suppose it's better to be frustrated that we lost this because of missed opportunities rather than the overwhelming superiority of the opposition. Nonetheless, we did gift them their first two tries, through missed tackles for the first, and a disastrous attempted chip ahead from within the 22 that got charged down and followed up for the score. 0-14, and we had to catch up. We nearly did at 20-21, but then took our foot off the gas again.

Positives - the line-out worked a lot better, and we even stole one. The scrum was fairly solid, but gave free-kicks away within range and on our put-in. Why? It happened not once but twice. It was good to see Andy Reay back in place, and the link with the backs was better.

However, the handling was not, and there was too much spilled ball again. And why did we feel the need for the aerial ping-pong in the first half? It wasn't as though the kicks were being chased very hard.

Altogether disappointing, but next week we have Donny, who have made if anything a worse start than us. We must get a win out of that.

There is a law that say's there will either be three different people fighting to get score updates on here, or none. Shall we try to coordinate things to ensure that one or other of us does it each and every game?

With a few volunteers we can each do just one or two matches a season, and still know the live updates will be here when we can't get to games. If you are prepared to help as a pitchside texter or an at-home "poster" please send an e-mail to Dave Bettis c/o info@moseleyrugby.co.uk with the following info.

Pitchside texter: which games are you planning to attend (home and away), your mobile number, and can you post direct via Blackberry or other device.

At-home "poster" - which games are you planning to be at home for (home and away)- your mobile number.

Mobile numbers will only be passed to the other half of a matchday pairing.

We'll try to allocate September and October games initially.

Over to you out there - and if you know someone who's helped before do make sure they know about this

Last night's results indicate Mose have so far played two in-form teams in Exe and Pirates:

FT Cov 13 - 27 Chiefs

FT Knights 10 - 21 Pirates

Exe and Pirates are both undefeated with three from three. Mose may have leaked a lot more points than Cov and Knights, but they did manage a total of seven tries in their matches against Exe and Pirates - last night Cov and Donny managed just one apiece.

So, if Mose keep scoring, but tighten up their defence, they're on the way... Easy!

Hello

We would like to thank all for the interest shown in the proposed Supporters Coach to last weekend's match at Camborne. Unfortunately the interest wasn't sufficient to make the coach viable but that won't deter us from planning for the following away matches between now and the end of 2009:

  • Friday 16th October @ Bristol
  • Friday 13th November @ Bedford
  • Sunday 13th December @ Nottingham
  • Saturday 19th December @ Doncaster

The Friday coaches are budgeted at £20.00 per seat with departure from Billesley expected to be between 4:00pm and 4:30pm (subject to confirmation), returning to Billesley at 10:00pm sharp – an earlier return is possible subject to the agreement of the travelling supporters.

The Nottingham and Doncaster coaches are budgeted at £15.00 per seat. Timings to be confirmed in due course.

Consideration has been given to running a coach to Coventry. However given the good transport links between Birmingham and Coventry it was decided not to run one.

If you have any queries or wish to register your interest for any of the coaches please contact either by e-mail, telephone call/text message, or by stopping for a chat in the Club House.

I acknowledge that I should probably phone the general office to find out but I wondered if the club does any xmas party packages during December? The kind of thing where a small company or a company department buys a table or two, usually at a hotel, for a dinner and disco.
Also, does the club do any gifts that would be suitable client (or family and friends for that matter) gifts such as a pair of tickets or a family ticket for any home match?

I agree that Sunday's performance was unacceptable in many ways however we should be careful in our analysis and thoughtful in our comments. There will always be variation in performance from individual players and the effect that this has on team dynamics is complex. Simple observation would suggest that key players performed below a standard that would be expected and that having being placed firmly on the back foot within five minutes of kick off there was a collective inability to turn things around. A number of factors may well be responsible and it is important that the coaches and the management team look critically at preparation, fitness and conditioning, motivation and leadership amongst the players. Unfortunately the rsponsibility for performance falls ultimately on the players themselves and I would ask them to be honest in their analysis of Sunday's events, understand the issues that need to be resolved and request that the club provides whatever resources are necessary to ensure that we perform to our potential. It should be remembered however that we have one of the lowest, if not the lowest playing budget at this level!!!!!!!

I wonder if it could also include an injury update with estimated recovery times?
There is no implied criticism in this - I know every one involved in running the club is constsntly busting a gut.

I am now not surprised, they won at Nottingham. Their pack looks strong, and they have seem to have mastered The Rolling Maul and look very dangeous from it. They are good in the backs, and particularly out to the right wing, they also have a very good young kicker.
I think this will be a very good test for our squad, to see how we are going to fare this season ! I just hope we dont have to many injuries for this game.

I know that some supporters have commented on the application in previous posts but I suspect that many supporters may not realise just how much work will have gone in to this application. It is a comprehensive and impressive piece of work and I just wanted to thank all of those who helped pull it together. an enormous amount of work goes on behind the scenes as seen by the developments at the club on all fronts both on and off the field. It is important that all of those doing all the work realise just how much it is appreciated by those of us who only buy the season tickets and eat the cornish pasties. Many thanks to you all and may you continue to move the club forward in such a positive and sensible way.

I would like thank Moseley for your hospitality and banter. Just to say that due to injuries chiefs played the last 12 mins with only 14 men. You spread the ball and got the trys. 1st game you will get better when your team gets fully fit. Hope ours aren't to bad injury wise, look forward to your visit to SP. All the best.
