In reply to: Birmingham Mail 's message, "Relieved Moseley RFC coach Ian Smith calls for bigger budget" on "Mon, Apr 11 2011, 13:40:50 GMT"

Interesting comments from Mr Smith and my two immediate reactiosn were "yes he's right Moseley do need more investment" and "well you would say that wouldn't you!"

yes the club could use more investment to spend on players, the stand, ground inmprovements, youth development, merchandise etc etc etc but the other comment smacks a little of "well you didn't give me the right tools to do the job" which, personally, I woudl have to disagree with especially as the person complainign is the one who chose the tools.

I realy don't know what the solution is to the lack of investment, I'm not blaimgin the Board as I know how hard they have worked to keep Moseley alive and kicking and other than my comment above I'm not going to say anything about the whethrr changing the coaches is right either - I made my feelings clear earlirr in the season on this board as people will probably recall. IMHO Moseley need freshening up - who, where and how is not for me to decide - but the status quo is not and cannot be an option otherwise it will be Pool C again next season.

from what i know of it and been told, our playing budget is not much different to half the clubs in the league. as you say it was the coaches team (weell more smiths than maggs as he came on board after) and it seems like there is an element of excuses coming in. i dont think the criticism of the directors will help smith's cause or his position!

I think that the board have tried to give us a strong chance of finishing in the top 8 for the last 2 seasons. I am sure we have all been excited to see the new signings perform in the pre-season games and the first few matches, but then as the season progresses we find out who are good enough and also where our weaknesses are , then The Board support another 4 or 5 new additions.
My question is should the players we had this season of been able to finish in the top 8 ?

IMHO I believe this to be one of the best squad of players that we have had for years, unfortunatly they have not always played as a team, also the player who has been our most potent force in the latter part of the season Ollie, could not even get in the team earlier on because his face did not fit,a moseley player like a few others through and through. So where do we find ourselves looking?
