I certainly don't know anyone who would have been happy at the start of the season with the thought of us avoiding relegation in the penultimate match of the season. The reality seems to me that we have assembled the strongest squad we've seen for some years; one which should have been capable of finishing ahead of 4 other teams in the regular season. Indeed I thought at the start that Rotherham would be a good team to match our progress against and that 45 points would be the bench mark for safety. With the benefit of hindsight I still think those were attainable with the squad available. While I am, needless to say, delighted that we avoided the drop (and gutted in equal measure that work kept me away from the game)I am still deeply concerned at the inonsistency of our performances throughout the season. For the good of the club and future planning the euphoria of escaping relegtaion (a situtaion we should not have been in) must not obscure the problems of the 22 games which preceeded the playoffs (nor indeed the first 2 playoff games.)
