There's no criticsim of the players here - they can only take the opportunities they are given and playing once every 3-4 weeks does nothing for match sharpness, fitness or confidence.
Bishop is undoubtedly a proven quality player but what chance has he had to build a playing relationship with his centre partner? Likewise Bishay - I agree with comments above that he's looked a sharp finisher but what chance has he had to learn other players' running lines and little quirks? These things come from game time and no ammount of training drills can replicate what happens in a live match environment.
And then there's Ollie - does he lack the gas? Yes. He is a sublime broken field runner but lacks the raw pace to take his oppo on the outside which is a basic requirement for wing play at any level. I also have noticed him dropping in to first receiver and he has done so effectively so why waste his talent on the wing when Davies has had, at best, an inconsistent season at fly half. Given the musical chairs elsewhere in the back line it seems frankly baffling that Ollie, who is arguable the best all round footballer at the club, has not been given an opportunity in his preferred position.
Looking at the squad man by man there are players in every position who would make it in to top 8 teams in this competition so the question remains as to why we are struggling in the relegation play-offs? Strong teams are built round strong settled combinations and while injuries will always cause some disruption the apparent failure to settle on preferred combinations by this point in the season is not accpetable. Perhaps this season Smithy has had too much choice having got used to managing a smaller squad supplemented by DRs from Glous when they were made available.

I presume it is Maggs who selects the backs to play in games and this is where most changes are always made. The pack has been pretty consistently selected over the season in my opinion. At the end of the day though, Smith is the head coach and the buck stops with him. Gosh I just don't know what will happen to the club if we go down, just look at teams like Waterloo, Rugby, Newbury etc. It does not bear thinking about. it took a huge effort last time with a good squad of players to get us back up again.
