Hi BV,
it was more than a few drops of fuel.

IF the Brisbane Courier Mail is to be believed he needed 400 litres. "Christ" mate, that's more than 80 Imperial Gallons. The entire fuel load of most light aircraft, in normal configuration, is less than that. eg CS182RG = 92 US Gallons.

When you draft a flight plan, you normally allow for your normal fuel consumption, plus a reserve. Especially over oceans or deserts etc.

With an error of this magniture, one can only assume he is stupid or insane. This could not be a simple miscaculation. Anyway, when he was still short of the, "Point of no Return", his fuel consumption figures would have clearly indicated this.

Probably he didn't have a fuel gauge, or a fuel burn-rate gauge either. Unless there is other info that I am not party to, the bloke is a dangerous dickhead. What's next? The first to fly over Antarctica, in a Victa Mower powered Rogallo. For Christ's sake.

Regards......Ralph.
