Governments exist to preserve and project the interests of the rich and powerful. If they have to lie to do that, they will. Without a second thought.

Here in the US, the Bushie government of Repugnicans, has made lying an art form. Shortly after declaring war on the poor and calling it the War on Terrorism, they acted like naive ingenues by announcing the formation of an agency within the Department of Defense which would spread lies. After the public outcry, said they were abandoning the notion. But that hasn't stopped them from lying. Maybe they were lying about abandoning the notion.

The Poppy Bush administration repeated the lie about the Iraqi soldiers taking babies from incubators -- after coaching the Kuwaiti girl who told the lie in the first place. Now we get the lie about the connection between Iraq and El Quaida repeated continually. The lie about having secret evidence (there's an oxymoron for you) of Iraq's weapons programs has been repeated so often that it is now being parroted by average people in letters to the editor of local newspapers. The next step will be to use the secret evidence to justify nuking Iraq because of secret evidence that showed plans to use the secret weapons of mass destruction.

In the meantime, the Bush Pioneers Club and their corporate crony cohorts continue to grow fatter, wealthier, and more powerful.
