In reply to: Keith90 's message, "I haven't seen all of them play (specifically I haven't seen Blackshear or Ingram) but based on what I have seen of Brown I have no doubt he is the best of the bunch. My concern was ..... (see inside)" on 12:28:50 03/11/02 Mon

(1) I hear what you're saying about not wanting to over-recruit a particular position. But this revisits my quality over quantity issue. What does it say about the coaches' perception of the quality when they're bringing in so many guys for the one power forward slot? You might also ask what does it say about the recruits' assessment of the present and incoming talent they'll be up against if they have no problem coming in to compete in what appears to be a crowded situation? Care should be taken in assuming that needs have been met, and problems solved, based soley on sheer numbers (particularly when many have not actually seen what will be brought to the task). I have to caution that many teams who are not even in ANY postseason tournament also bring in large classes from time to time.

(2) Actually, Marc Jackson moved out William Cunningham after Cunningham had been with the program for two seasons (his freshman and sophomore years). Carstarphen moved out Michael Harden in Harden's senior season. Also, it was clear that Mark Karcher would moved Julian Dunkley out of the small forward slot if Dunkley had remained at Temple. Still, you are correct that Coach Chaney, for the most part, tends to stick with upperclassmen over newcomers.

As for Brown, all of that is, as I wrote, about as speculative as you can get. But, hypothetically speaking, there's just no way that Coach Chaney could watch this kid on a daily basis in practice and then choose to put someone else on the floor - no matter how many other forwards there are. If it's possible for such a thing to happen, well, that says as much as anything about the direction of the program.
