This is printed on here with the permission of owner who put it on another CLC members site

Hi all,

I rang one of the PC EMD on Wednesday night to see what "our" club fees would be, though Mr Burton knew the figure he was not willing to disclose this until the official letters went out. Why? he thought it unwise . He did say however that it was around the 5% mark, though until the exchange rate and inflation rate was taken into account an accurate figure could not be given.

I explained that since the £ against the Euro had risen back in favour of the members and the inflation rates in Europe had also come down since the BIG hike in 2003 what reason was there for an increase, the £ was back in the members favour by 4.5% and the inflation rate had come down by 1.2% . I also pointed out that CLC were very quick to use these as an (excuse ) reason to put the manangement fees up and more by these figures, though they are now very slow at redressing it. CLC use an exchange rate of 1.37 Euro, the actual official rate is 1.49 Euro and the official tourist exchange rate is 1.42 Euro this is absolutely ridiculous and in my opinion robbery.

I then asked Mr Burton if the EMD had a say on how much they went up, Mr Burton replied " NO, the CLC accounts team forward a figure to the meeting and this is either passed or not. If it is not passed the actual sites will suffer because the management (CLC) will not spend on the site. This again brought me back to the question I posed to Mr Burton and Mr Lomax when they in my opinion sold the membership down the river...(And I expressed this at the time to all the EMD's in phone calls )...by their action of letting CLC switch the method of paying the managements fees to CLC.

1) By switching to the new payment method NO accounts have to be made available to members. Now by this very fact, I would myself had said no this is not reasonable and too BIG a decision to make , let the membership decide at the next AGM.

2) If they had kept the old method for which accounts HAD to be made available, then indeed CLC couldn't in my opinion put undue pressure on the EMD to pass big increases by saying investment would be withheld or imply this in anyway they do.
All the money would have had to be set off against what was collected and if indeed CLC were to be found correct that big investment was needed and it was actually been spent on "our " site, then at least the membership could see it in the accounts.

3) And finally I asked, CLC had stated back in 2003 in the minutes which I still have copies of and which you can find HERE , that by taking this route of switching method payment it would indeed BRING DOWN the management fees , and this decision could be reversed at any time. I asked Mr Burton if now was a good time to ask the membership if this needed doing? Reply no comment!!

PS.. Just done a quick calculation of increase since switching payment method to CLC instead of coming down as stated it has actually risen by 54%

It appears to me that we need to change the Elected Members as the appear to just accept whatever CLC put's in front of them. Do they not question the ever rising increases. They also need to change the method of direct charges.

>I agree with PG about the need to change elected members representatives as the ones we have got are useless and clearly only in it for a free ride.
The problem is they come up for reelection by rotation every three years and the membership are apathetic and keep voting them back in !!
At the end of the day who does Tony Burton think he's been elected to represent ? he is supposed to be the conduit between CLC and the members so why withhold info unless he's got something to hide.
The AGM is a farce with few attendees in terms of % of overall membership and members questions always seem to be about petty personal issues rather than the real concerns like exhorbitant maintenance fees, and incomplete refurbishment.
No doubt when the maintenance fee requests start dropping through our letter boxes we shall see a flurry of outrage which will quickly subside into quiet acceptance - just as CLC plan and expect.

You just hit it on the head, apathy among the owner members is the big problem.
