What on earth is going on at RCI? The latest book sees both Paradise and Monterey with silver crown status but of the 50 resorts in Tenerife featured, the majority have either a gold or silver crown. We were always led to believe that the top 5% of resorts in each area were awarded Gold Crown with the next 15% at silver.
At a recent CLC session in Costa Del Sol, the senior rep advised that Paradise would probably never get its gold crown back, that Monterey will become a two standard resort and that there was a possibility that weeks owners may not in future be allowed to cede weeks into their points system. Anyone else heard of this? It is obviously a possibility put forward to encourage weeks owners to relinquish their weeks for points.

Hi I've just come back from Paradise Club and can confirm that I was also told by a CLC rep trying to get me to buy points that as an owner I would not be placed in a refurbished apartment. They are for CLC points members only and that owners and RCI exchange people will be placed in the apartments that have not been refurbished. I told him that it was disgusting the way we are being treated as second class citizens, we pay our maintainance like CLC people why are we being treated like this ? I asked when my apartment would be done and got no reply. Who the hell would want to invest money with people of this calliber god only knows ????

HI,we own week 52 at the paradise club, when we arrived the room has had nothing done to it at all.We have owned for 4 years and the maintenance has doubled in that time, wot we would like to know is what exactly is the committee getting out of it cos they seem to be doing jack s**t for the members, especially fixed week members. We had to have another mattress brought in for the sofa bed cos when you tried to sleep on it all you could feel were the bars. Then we had the call to go to breakfast which we did but with no intention of changing to points. We went to see the refit must admit they are lovely, but we were only with the rep about 15mins because of the questions we fired at him like when was E510 going to have anything done to it?his reply to that was because we are still a fixed week member it will be one of the last ones to be done which could take three years and it won't be to the standard of the show apartment. So we asked where our maintenance was going and he bluntly told us, to do all the refits for the points members. We also asked what about points members who use E510, if the room isn't going to be of clc standard won't they be disappointed, and his reply was, we put all the stragglers into those rooms that are still owned by fixed`week members. I think that says it all,THEY WILL NOT GET OUR FIXED WEEK NO MATTER WHAT WE WOULD RATHER SELL IT TO A PRIVATE COMPANY THAN GIVE IT BACK TO THEM.

hi all
Did anyone happen to see the news story in this months RCI magazine that showed how a (large)timeshare company namely Sunset Beach Club can undertake the refurbishment of there resort that does look really good and plan too have it completed by this summer (2006). Having only started the refurbishment in 2005 how is CLC taking so long to carry out our program. Is it i wonder a way of them clawing more money from already fed up members points, weeks whatever you own and forcing owners to leave the resort.
I own three weeks at paradise and as recent as October none of my apartments have been refurbished is it because i am a weeks owner we will never know.Like everyone else i have lost count over the years to the amount of money i have paid towards this seeminly bottomless pit.
Please dont give your weeks back as you are only giving in to the crooks

Hi,

Just returned from a week in Tenerife and thought I’d pass on the latest Resort news based on my own observations.

Paradise:

For those that Hire Cars for your visit, you should be aware that you can no longer turn left just after Vila Tagoro (to go over the motorway bridge) as you head out of the resort. To overcome this you need to continue down towards the Motorway turn right and follow the Parallel road until just pass the Rodeo Restaurant and then use the underpass to go under the Motorway, one further problem is that due to roadwork’s there you can't use the other parallel road but have to detour via the Jacaranda and Bahia Princess eventually emerging by the Torviscas Playa.

The road between La Pinta and St Eugenes is currently closed off for what looks like pedestrianisation work, when completed I believe the stretch between La Pinta and the Esmeralda is next on the hit list.

Monterey

The Sunset Restaurant is now open from 1800 Hrs - it’s the old Montys’ Restaurant Venue for those
Who remember it. The poolside bar now closes at 1800 hrs when Sunset opens.

The Resort entrance road – just the steep winding bit has been resurfaced.

Phase 3 opens 23rd December – although the 3 bed penthouses are not yet in use.

Block A – looks like a major refit underway with new furniture being craned in

The problem is our maintance costs are now at almost £1100 for a 3 bed, two weeks at the Monterey and we will not pay this. As I have these points already and are paid for in 2005 can I book a holiday for next year? Not I hasten to add with CLC. I recently came back from Spain and the rep there said I could as the points were with RCI and nothing to do with CLC. Can anyone clarify this for me?

We have seen a few apartments that have been upgraded but are still wondering why C200 has not been done and when we had a a phone call to ask if we want to air our views at a breakfast and could find a way of cutting our fees in half We wonder why we need to go to breakfast for this when all they need to do is put this in black and white for all members, breakfast indeed who are they kidding???
we also had a bad leak through the bathroom ceiling when we where hit with a tropical storm on Monday 28th Nov and complained about that but no one came to repair it.
we also found that the settees are well out of date and need replacing I wonder what we are paying for was hoping by now that these would have been replaced with the money thats made from Paradise club I find it hard to believe that they can not afford to finish this we have seen the upgrades and they look very nice so come CLC get your finger out and get the job finished.

Hi all, have just returned from Tenerife and i can honestly say that apart from the gastly black paint now being applied inside and outside of the appartments the resort does in my opinion look first class.
We were in a party of twenty having hired four private apartments and our own timeshare week, and everyone most of them being there for the first time were mightily impressed by almost everything they saw.
A few points i would like to air are as follows:
(1)The resort director was sacked the day before we left and all my many friends on the staff were delighted about this ? We wonder why?
(2)Zacarys is a disaster with the level of service and quality on offer quite appauling. We returned meals on both visits for various reasons but overall we witnessed many families having to wait long periods between courses and even just to order drinks etc and doing as we did sending food back to complain.
The worry is that this may have an impact on the RCI ratings that we are paying to try and reastablish back to gold crown status!
(3)Murphs Law although having the most pleasent staff in the resort in Ben And Chris was this time a little disapointing due to the fact that no food is available (yet again) except pizza ! and the entertainment we found to have lost the Quality of previous visits to the club and still finishes far to early. Why spend all the money to sound proof the bar only to close it down at 12.30?
(4)Did get obligatory phone calls etc and only when we got the knock on the door on our forth day did we speak yo a rep who when we politely told to leave us in pease did so.
Overall everyone did have a ball and we are already booking again for next year
regards
Billy

Having deliberated last year in not paying fees, (but did), does anyone know what the re-percussions are for deciding not to pay the maintenance fees. Last year I was told from CLC that membership and use of the resort is suspended until all outstanding fees are paid, (I assume that includes penalty charges). With the expectation of the new fees rising again, seeing we had an ‘easy’ year last time, I was wondering if CLC management adopt a ‘Halloween’ type campaign to recover their fees? Anyone who has given back their weeks, but still views this site, I would really appreciate a reply.

My wife and I are looking to buy on CLC Paradise early next year. I have got some quotes from Timeshare Hypermarket. But I'd prefer to cut out a 'middleman' (and associated 'admin' costs).

Ideally a 2-bed apartment (but may consider 1 bed). Looking for week 22, although between w21 and w26 might be acceptable.

If you, or anyone you know, wishes to sell, either reply on here or email me at weby2@o2.co.uk (and I check email more frequently)

With people simply giving up their weeks to those charming people at CLC due to the maintenence fees, I dare say that it's be better to get something for it.

Has anyone else had problems trying to book using RCI points, additional weeks away? I need to use some points and secured a week away in December, after a lot of problems, for a girlie trip.
I have been trying to secure another week for my son and his partner on the Costa Del Sol for Oct/Nov or infact anywhere in mainland Europe. Apparently there is no availability anywhere except the Canaries, which they don't want as I own there and they wanted a changeof venue.
So, please can someone explain to me why, if you look at the Empire Stores web page, RCI are offering cash holidays on the Costa Del Sol at three RID, Points resorts and one Gold Crown not in points. I intend to try again for a booking and will present them with this information. Are we being ripped off, I thought the idea was holiday when and where you liked. If there was a genuine lack of space I would accept this, clearly this is not true.

Checking out the RCI website and online resort directory, it appears that for 2005 Paradise has no award whatsoever - no Gold Crown, no Resort of International Distinction and no Hospitality award. According to the same website, Monterey has lost its gold crown and now has Hospitality. Not even RID.
Interesting to find out how CLC justify the high fees given this. All the same, it could be part of a sales ploy to get you to change to points. For those in the know, it is common knowledge that sales doesn't care two hoots about the resorts rating.

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Paradise Club. Was pleasantly surprised to find our apartment refitted. (L0300) New sofa bed really solid and comfortable - great improvement. After one phone call, during which we expressed no interest, was left alone to enjoy the rest of the holiday - only concern was suggestion of further increase in management fees.
Does anyone know how much private owners of entire apartments have to pay in management fees?

Hi all
Will be invading the paradise club again on the 14th oct
can anyone tell me if they have used a mini bus service to and from airport and how the cost compares to individual taxis. There are 20 people traveling so it would be ideal if we could travel together
p.s Let the party begin Scots on tour
cheers

Just back from Madeira. We stayed in the Pestana Miramar Resort -5 star gold crown luxury in 5 acres of immaculate gardens with saunas, jacuzzis, 3 pools-1 indoor and maid service every day.A beautifull 1 bedroomed apartment with hardwood floors - yearly management charges £189-00 (how do they do it).I wish they would tell club la costa their secret.

Hi Everyone,
Have just returned form two week at the Paradise Club.Had yet another good holiday. We own g904 and f603 so we expected at least one apartment to have been refurbished Guess what , nothing changed in either appartment. Requested a extra fan in f603 as the fan is only two speed and the appartment very hot.did not manage to get one.The lifeguard is taking towels of beds if no one on the beds after half an hour.Which is good except other people then are reading note left and then taking the empty beds. Nearly getting to fighting round pool one of the days. The reps still seem desperate to get set weeks but we refused to see out rep so we were left alone for the two week. The reps have taken over the top floor of the mex bar down the hill that nover got opened .the one above the ti
